Having surgery

I'm having surgery April 6th  and was wondering if anyone had any issues with hospitals not giving partners the same visitation as a legally married couple might have?

We are moving forward.... but NC still has a few closed minded folks lurking about.

I'm not sure what kind of visitation you are expecting ..but I had no problems. Of course, visitation is over at a certain time at night and they made an announcement that all visitors had to leave. Any one can visit you - your partner, friends, family.

Any way, Congrats on getting a surgery date!

Hi there...I believe talking to the staff about your partner spending the night is always an option.  My partner was able to stay as late as she wanted, especially since she didn't get off wor****il 10pm and by the time she got to the hospital it was very late.  I know most places with make exceptions as long as you discuss it with them.  Good luck and congratulations on your surgery date!

We had no issues at the hospital, my partner stayed all night with me. They even brought in a chair that made into a bed for him. We have been together for almost 23 years so of course he has POA for me.

No probs in Utica (Faxton-St. Luke's).  We didn't make any special requests, friends and family came and went pretty much whenever they wanted.  Do they really still try to separate partners in hospitals in the US?  That is so foreign to me (Canadian here).

Not sure if they seperate partners in hospitals... I have never been in the hospital personally so I'm not sure... just checking all my bases ahead of time.

Hope it turns out to be hassle-free for you!

No problem in upstate NY.  My partner spent the night twice during my stay - 6 days total due to GI bleed complication.
