Top of the morning’ to you all. We’re all a little Irish this one day a year. So, I was thinking green this morning. It seems like since my surgery green veggies are no longer my friend. I have yet to encounter a non-green veggie that does not work for me. Brussels sprouts, cabbage, asparagus, broccoli and lately fresh peas just don’t work with my band. If cooked properly and always when prepared in a restaurant, they get stuck and the next thing you know I am sliming. The only way they work is when I pretty much turn them to mush in the microwave. And... have you ever noticed how often broccoli is the veggie of the day in a restaurant? Makes it tough to avoid potatoes and starches by switching to the veggie of the day. On the good side, salad greens work great. Is this common for you too?

Closing with an Irish thought for hte day...
When the Irish say that St. Patrick chased the snakes out of Ireland, what they don't tell you is that he was the only one who saw any snakes!

Hmm..well I didn't have the band but figured I'll reply any way :)

Since surgery I have craved a lot of GOOD things and one is brocolli. The other is strawberries. If I had to live on strawberries and brocolli, life would be good lol. I love salad greens too. I've always loved brocolli but now I actually crave it. I think it made 4 times last week with dinner.

What is it that bothers you? I know some people here have said they get major gas. Just curious.

I guess I would say they get "stuck". For a bandster that is when I get discomfort in my pouch and then I start producing a lot of saliva which can't go down because of the broccoli. Next thing you know it comes up. You know, I work hard on chewing those things a lot and they still don't work. I just try to avoid them or cook the hell out of them. -- Tom

Maybe you aren't chewing them to pureed? Especially in a restaurant when you are talking, listening, and just not so much focusing on forever chewing like a bored goat??

That being said, all those vegies except the peas, are those healthy type that have a lot of whatever it is that stinks when you overcook them. Maybe your tums gotten sensitive.

My tube tummy doesn't mind them. Just gotta make sure they are small enough and slow enough to not back up into the esophagus waiting to enter the sacred stomach.
