So as I've said before I've been having some back problems. I take something when I go to bed to help me sleep but when it wears off I wake up. I get up between 2-4. I try to go back to sleep but at that point I have to pee so it's down the stairs I go. I grab a drink because I always wake up with cotton mouth lol .............and then...........I'm hungry!!!!

Vicious, vicious cycle.

I just wish I could sleep through the night! This is getting old. BUT ..if I feel like I must eat something what should I grab? Dinner is at 6 or 7 so when I get up at like 3am I feel like it's time for breakfast.

Help!

I know what you mean.  I now drink crystal lite fruit punch when I get up to pee!

Some ideas that could help:

1> Hot showers before bed.
2> Excercise before bed.
3> Sex before bed .  Well...it works for us guys. Just sayin'.
4> Aromatherapy oils to assist sleeping sprinkled on pillows or eye blinders.
5> Eat your dinner later, but not before bed.  Maybe 3 hours before.
6> Stop drinking several hours before bed to cut down on the late night trips to the bathroom.

Hope one of those sounds helpful.

If it is true hunger, then I would plan a pure protein snack before you go to bed, only like two bites worth. Don't let yourself wander into the fridge or pantry. Have it ready and make it the same thing every single night so it doesn't become a treat. Maybe 2 tablespoons of tuna salad, or 1/2 hard boiled egg. Something that will hold you until morning but not very much. Another idea is to make a batch of the crustless quiches (eggbites) from EggFace (Shelley) and keep them in the fridge. You can heat one up and use that.

But be sure it's true hunger and not head/mouth hunger.

I get up usually 2-3 times every night and I do understand that feeling. Fortunately, mine is not strong enough to need to eat. I keep a bottle of crystal lite water in the bathroom, take a couple of sips and back to bed.

I hope your back feels better soon.

Don't let the fridge tempt you. I have a large glass of ice water or Crystal Lite on my night stand. If I wake with cotton mouth, I have something at hand to drink. I then lay back down. Don't leave the bedroom. -- Tom

I changed some things! Taking my back meds earlier (so I'm not drinker later) and I slept through the night last night. Felt great!!! I did wake up to shut the tv off at some point but went back to sleep. No "thinking" I needed a drink or snack :)

Thanks everyone!
