Tricks of the trade...

So reading Nean's post this morning about tricking herself into overcoming her obsession with peanut M&M got me to thinking about what we do to trick (or convince) ourselves into changing old habits and/or creating new ones.

Since my surgery, I've been eating out of 1/4 cup (now 1/2 cup) ramikins and using demitasse spoons or tiny shrimp forks. This forces me to take tiny bites and helps me not feel like I'm eating next to nothing.

Well, i wouldn't call it a trick, YET.  :)  However, in preparation for the surgery we've bought Tupperware that holds 1/2 cup servings only.  So I know that I can fill it half full and eat from it in the beginning.  My thought process is that if I have the stuff done up already in the fridge....and don't have to scoop out of a larger container, I won't have to think about how small it is....I can just tell myself that this is the meal.

Rae, fantastic idea. You are doing so much of the work that will bring you the success you desire after your surgery. Planning is 90% of this job! Making food and dividing it into individual portions YOUR SIZE is a fantastic way to avoid overeating. I do this and even put them into freezer containers. By the time I get around to the end of a normal sized portion, it's gone bad. LOL My freezer is filled with 1/4 - 1/3 cup size servings of lots of different foods. It's helped my partner too because she just takes two of my servings for a meal and so is eating less and eating more healthy.
Thank you for the good ideas!

I sure wish I could find 1/4 cup tupperware! Only got the 1/2c size.

I use a demitasse spoon & have a small sushi plate. Also have la cueset (sp?) silicone prep bowls which are only 1/4 cup.

I always eat off a dinner roll plate.. I don't really do that to trick myself, but it helps keep my food warmer longer AND it the amount doesn't look so pathetic sitting on that huge dinner plate,...
I have found a new way of life that has kept me at Goal since 2008.. And keeping it that way!
