Can your lapband be finicky?

I thought I had figured out my lapband and what I can and can not eat. It seems to be possessed this week. Monday and Tuesday dinners got stuck. Today, I decided to have lunch in the cafeteria instead of packing. I always pack to control my food. Anyway, I had what I though was safe and it got stuck. It was a roasted veggie sandwich on ciabatta bread. I had the bread toasted and made open face on 1 slice of bread. The veggies were ones that work for me. Alas, after 2 bites I knew I was in trouble. I chew, chew ,chew too.I told Brett to make salmon tonight since I know I can eat it with no issues. We will see. Just frustrated and need to share. I seem to be a slow learner. -- Tom

my band is very finicky.  one day it will like a certain food and the next time I have that food...uh not so much.  i think they are possessed they do have minds of their own.  i have been banded for almost 2 years and I am still figuring it out Tom. i think it's a lifelong thing. like I said it seems to change pretty often

Hi.
my band was so finicky that sometimes would restrict and have to leave the table after the first bite. Most of the time even after 5 fills in I was never restricted therefore I did not lose weight. Never had to chew, chew, chew. Its been over a year now and I am going to be having the bypass sometime this spring..

Paul and Judex,
It is frustrating. It took me 4 fills to get to feel restriction. The 5th one seemed to put it at a real good point. I am losing slowly and can still eat things that I should be able to eat. These episodes puzzle me.  On one hand, I feel like telling my surgeon to give me another .5cc in a few weeks when I have my next appointment to see if the weight loss picks up. Other times, I would rather stay where I am. I am just trying to figure out if I am eating too large a serving and a fill might help that. I have read on forums where some people are so possessed to get fill after fill and almost want to feel miserable to know it's working. I figure my weight at the fill appointment will be a good guideline if I need a fill. I did skip gettinga fill it this past month and am happy with how it's working. I appreciate your responsesas more experienced bandsters.
Tom

Tom,
i can relate. for about 6 weeks or so I had awsome restriction. i got full on a small amount of food and didn't get hungry for about 4 hours after I ate. now it seems all of a sudden that restriction is gone. i eat a reasonable amount of food....most of the time...and then i am hungry again within half an hour. i know i need a fill when i go in next week.  to fill or not to fill is really up to you. it all depends on how you feel. being too tight is really bad. if you are not losing and are able to eat more than you think you should be able to, or eat foods that used to give you trouble when you had good restriction, and get hungry relatively quickly it may be time for a fill. i don't think you are a slow learner at all. it just come with the band territory, trying to figure out what is best for you. feel free to share or vent to me about the band anytime Tom. I'm here for ya if you need me.  Paul

My band is my guardian!!  I know now what to have and not have.  I find that cold days it is the real boss and I know to begin my day with a non fat latte to let it relax before eating.  I also have learned when eating out not to even try to have any bread or pasta product.      I have just decided to be glad the band is my boss or I would still be bigger than a house!   Great topic!

Ann, I have found that bread is not my friend. I avoid it. I do like a nibble here and there of a nice heavy bread or roll. I can tolerate maybe 1/2 of a slice of whole grain bread and it most likely needs to me crusty or toasted. I barely nibbled on the ciabatta bun. I am eliminating all bread and carbs for a few days to see how it goes. -- Tom
