Looking for Help with Gastric Sleeve
I do not recommend my surgeon. Good surgeon, nice guy. SLOWER than molasses in the surgical suit. Did three surgeries on my surgical day. We had to be at hospital at 5:30am. We sat in that waiting room, and sat, and sat. My surgery ended up starting at 6:30pm. I didn't get out of recovery until midnight. This is typical for him per all the staff (including former staff who are now my coworkers)
Dr Aceves in Mexicali (near San Diego CA) and Dr Alvarez in Padres Negros (near San Antonio Tx) get the best reviews and have a high volume of patients. If my wife had been willing to go to Mexico, I would have gone to one of them in a heartbeat.
Good luck with your sleeve. I'm happy with mine, but the first 6-8 weeks is quite the adjustment.

I am kind of leaning towards Dr Joya in Mexico, PV to be exact.
I am hoping to run into someone who has used him, so I am searching the site. My gf won't be able to come with me, so I am going to take a friend, as I don't want to go alone.
Know of anyone who has used Dr Joya?
Thanks for the response
Ya know what Nean, I am sick and tired of being sick and tired of being overweight. If that makes sense! I just want a permanent solution, not a temporary one, to my life long problem of my weight. I think this is the best weight loss tool for me.
Any details you can offer would be great........things they "don't " tell you in the scripted doctors information.
Cheers...Jane

I was on Dr. MacDonald's list for two years then he retired for two years before I even knew. I am not sure if they were taking patients from the list first. Contact the clinic and talk to Diana Lawlor who is the coordinator. I will include her email if you would like. So, anyway, my doctor referred me again in September and I was scheduled for the info. session on Oct 31. Unfortunately, I had to be in Ontario on that date so she recheduled me for the Feb 17 information session. Diana's email address is: [email protected]. She is the Weight loss Clinic go to person. She is also very nice and pleasant. So good luck. I live near Antigonish, where do you live?

I emailed Diana today....thanks for the email. Diana emailed me back the Feb session is full.
I am going to see my Dr. on Tues to make sure he has sent in the referral....to see if I can make the next one....hopefully soon.
I am in New Glasgow....so kinda close to you!
From Oct to Feb...so looks like every 4 months or so.
Has your Dr applied to MSI as of yet?
What a roller coaster ride this is. I am overweight enough, am I sick enough, am I mentally stable enough............gosh....enough already!!!
If the waiting list is a forever.......I will try to explore other options. God I hope not....my surgery payments will be more than my mortgage!! ha ha
The trick there is where to go, the states, Mexico...Chech or UK seem kinda far, but apparently they have been doing the sleeve for sometime now.
Keep in touch......Jane

My only caution with Dr. Joya - he doesn't do all that many sleeves, and (this is totally unscientific!!!) I have seen proportionally quite a few on the sleeve forum who come back in a month or two VERY upset that they don't have the amount of restriction that other people seem to have. He says he uses the same bougie size as the others, but he doesn't seem to pull as tight around the bougie. So bigger tummy, less restriction, less GERD, but possibly a harder time loosing weight/getting to goal.
lisaweisenbach had surgery with Dr. Joya and had the minimal restriction problem.

A woman in my support group went to Dr. Joya and had the sleeve and she loves it. She told me he and his staff were great and the overall experience was top rate. I was actually thinking about getting the sleeve from Dr. Joya but my insurance changed the 1st of the year and now they cover the DS so i don't need to go to Mexico, but if i was self pay i would go to Dr. Joya.

Hey Jane,
If you haven't done so, please post over on the VSG forum. I believe we have a couple folks in canada (not sure) and several who have used Dr. Joya.
