Date is Scheduled
Hello everyone! :) I have been lurking in the shadows for the last few weeks just reading and surveying my surroundings. I am at the stage of gathering as much information as possible prior to having my surgery. So the dr set my date for Feb 26. I am having the filter put in my blood stream to help eliminate a clot to pass to my lungs or heart. Did anyone else have a filter? Just curious how it is done? They dr said they use an x-ray ....not sure what they mean since the x-ray I’m thinking of does not have a continuous feed of information and if they are feeding things down my arteries, I’d think they need to have a continuous monitor.
Anyway, I have a lot to learn and a lot to lose...so thanks to everyone for being so open with all of the information!

Hi Rae, welcome!!!!
Yes, it's a vena cava filter and it's a good safeguard to avoiding blood clots. By x-ray they mean that they will be watching what they are doing using x-ray technology but in real-time using fluroscopy. It's very, very (almost no) low dose radiation so no worries there. They will make a tiny puncture (incision) in your groin to thread through the catheters in order to place the filter. We are talking minature stuff here. It's really painless as they numb the skin where they are going to go in and you will be awake (or maybe a little something to relax you). There really is not much to it from your side of things. Some people feel a little hot flash or flushing at they get where they are going but they will be monitoring everything and so you are pretty safe. The only thing after is a little bruise or soreness where they went in but it fades after a few days, just like any bruise.
Congratulations on getting your surgery date. The filter will be a good safeguard for you.
Looking forward to hearing more about your journey!

Congrats on your date! I had a venna cava filter put in, I still have it Ithink they are going to take it out next month. When they did mine they went in through my neck, some doctors go in the groin. I thought I was going to be put to sleep but was not they said they gave me some happy meds but could not tell. I did not feel anything and I think it took the dr about 5 -10 minutes to palce the filter. When it was over I had to basicaly lay and rest for about 3 hours, if they go in your groin you can't move for about 2-3 hours.
Good luck.
Jeff
