WLS and Quiting Smoking dont go together...
Hope everyone is doing better than I am now..
I am about 2 1/2 week on Chantix.(helps the no smoking). Well the no smoking is going well dont care to have them, but on the down side i want to eat all the time. I know that i am not hungry, and I am just replacing one bad habbit with another. I know this is the head hunger talking to me bud dam its so hard right now. I was up to about 2 1/2 packs a day. I have tried drinking the water and waiting the 30 min like my Dr has said to, but its not working.
Any ideas will be great.
Thank you
Scott

I don't know if I can really help you, I quit smoking 3 years ago, long before I thought about having WLS. But, maybe if you get a hobby to keep yourself distracted it might help. Work out a little more at the gym, go for a walk, pick up the phone and call a friend...you get the idea.
Are you sure you are ready to quit? I found that the times I had tried to quit before never worked because I just wasn't really ready to do it. When I quit the last time, I was totally ready and did it cold turkey. I have had a few "cravings" since that time, and a couple of times I actually did light up only to find out that I really didn't want the cigarette, it was anxiety and I had to work it out on my own.
Good luck to you. It is a terribly hard habit to break.

Never had this problem but I can just offer helps I have heard about. Crewing gum, using a carrot in place of the cig (a doctor told me friend that), have a rubberband on your wrist and snap it when you want one, do something else with your hands, put something else in your mouth (sufgar free candy, pen caps, stuff like that). Good luck!

Oh how I feel for you!!! I quit for WLS a year ago Septemebr. I was smoking about a pack and a half a day. I had the motivation because Kaiser won't allow you to have surgery unless you quit. But honestly I have quit about 100 times. The thing I did different was... I used the gum (I usually used Wellbutrin) and every time I had the urge to smoke I got up and walked around my building, sometimes twice.. Usually by the time I got back, the urge was gone.
good luck, it's the hardest thing in the world to do.
