XPost: Blood
Has anyone ever needed extra blood during surgery and if so, did you use your own? Did you have blood drawn and saved for surgery?

i know i didn't need blood. however i think it would depend on your current physical state that the surgeon can determine if you would need blood transfusions (anemic or something like that). if they can pre-determine that you may need blood, they may have you donate blood to yourself.
of course in the operating room ANYTHING could happen which would require blood to be transfused into you.

I asked this question to my doc. My mother had knee replacement not long ago and had to bank her own blood, but did not need it. My doc told me the blood loss is very small. I would ask your doc though. I am sure they all have different thoughts on it.
