Silly post of the day: Avatars
This crossed my mind when I was looking at the main board. It seems to me that the avatar that people pick seems to tell us something about them the same way what clothes one chooses to wear does. Most of us choose photos of ourselves in the best light we can find. I noticed, for example, that most people pick the most attractive photo of themselves they can find at the most ideal weight they've achieved, rarely the picture of themselves at the weight they don't want to return to.
A lot of people on the main posting board seem to have very "young" avatars - I was surprised at the number of Whinnie the Pooh avatars and the like. Even stranger, most of those were Eeyore.
If your avatar is supposed to be a comment on who you are, and what you're shooting for, I'm wondering why people choose the avatars they do. Not meaning to be judgmental, but in the above example, I could never choose a clinically depressed donkey with self esteem issues as my avatar.
Does your avatar portray you? If you wanted to redo your avatar as a non-picture of you, what avatar would portray you best?

I think I love you!
All you have to do is read OH for a week or longer; by that point, you'll be wondering why _most_ of the avatars aren't of Eeyore! (Though if a cartoon character had fibromyalgia, I'm sure that would be popular too!) I swear that this browsing this website is like tiptoeing through the DSM-R, page by page!

oh well hell... I guess I was totally out in left field. I never thought of eeyore as someone with depression lol (but now that I think about it... wow how did I miss that)
I always liked Eeyore because he was so easy going, laid back, and didn't really sweat the small stuff.
"Dude, you lost your tail!!!"
"Ahh... f-ck it, who cares"

I guess I wanted an avatar that showed who I am. I like seeing the other members' pics. It gives me a sense of who the person is. I think many people use the canned avatars because they do not know how to edit graphics and make these photo avatars.
I also notice that this board is different than most on OH. The people here are more open, definitely not judgmental andthere are no "experts who rule the board". I think it is because we form more of a community.
I have chatted on a lapband board and man the women on there were real catty, had many problems and were never happy. I don't see that here. I think our lesbian, bi and trans ladies are much more understanding and resilient.

Kathy, Ooops, I forgot we have straight chatters in here too. Of course it applies to everyone here.

My avatar is what it is because everytime I shrink a pic to fit in the box...it's all distorted and scrunched and I can't have that! LOL
I change it though based on the mood I'm in sometimes. I had one graphic that said love on it ...I must of been in a really good mood then :) I have used a cartoon type pic ...and I use those when I'm in a weird silly mood - it's usually spongebob. I like eeyore and always have been a "Pooh" fan, but that might be a girl thing.
Overall, no ...my avatar(s) don't really say much for who or what I am. If I'm interested that much in someone I check out their profile, or add them as a friend. Until I get a pic that doesn't look all weird in the little box ...you'll have to deal with my funky avatars :)

My avatar would be Pippi Longstocking.
She's tough, sassy, doesn't take lip from anyone and what a snappy dresser!
She can even eat nails and not gain a pound! lol
