OMG..am I eating too much??

I know this will sound strange, but remember about 2 months post op:

I feel like I am eating too much.  Yesterday, I ate a full bowl of Oatmeal, 4 crackers with soy cheese and tofurky, fruit salad and 1 inside of a garlic bread.  I know that does not sound like much, but i have only been eating about a handful of food since surgery (October 13th) and I feel like I am eating triple.....

Is this normal?  I know fruit like cantalope is just lie water, but I thought the crackers and bread would make me sick...I was not even full....I am still losing.....

We are not allowed to eat oatmeal till we reach goal.  Protien only.  Just meat.  And if you are a vegetarian, they wont do the surgery on them.   It looks like you ate alot of carbs.  According to my doc the carbs will make you eat more.    Was that one meal or all day?

Uh, oh!  I'm screwed!    I never eat any other sort of cereal for breakfast, but especially in the winter I frequently have oatmeal, which I supplement with a scoop of Beneprotein whey protein.  Made with skim milk, plus the added whey protein, I end up with 20 grams of prrotein, and it satisfies my hunger for hours

But seriously, "protein only, just meat?"  I was always told "protein first"; it was never assumed that we'd be completely avoiding carbohydrates.  Not that crackers or the inside-of-garlic-bread are a good idea!

I was told Oatmeal is great since it has good prot. and I am vegan.  That was ALL day...not just one meal, LOL!  I do not even like Oatmeal....I just eat it for the prot.

That is NOT TRUE. Meat is not the only source of protein in the world! Plenty of veggies of different persuasions have had WLS. There is no way someone so early out of surgery can make their daily protein by eating just meat.

Carbs are allowed, they are even good for you in moderation (haven't we been learning this our whole lives?) Oatmeal is allowed too; I enjoy it every once in a while! I go for the Quaker Weight Control oatmeal though, there are like 7 grams of protein in it plus if you use milk in it it is better.

I do agree, however, that you should concentrate on eating protein before the carbs.

You may also not be eating ENOUGH! How many calories did you consume?

Barb, sorry but you are only a month out, you shouldn't be dispensing "advice" like that. Are you even on solids yet?

I am so bad at this.  I have no clue how many calories I am taking in.  It was like I was never hungry to where now I feel like I am over eating.  I guess I need to concentrate more!!

I'm more than 13 months out, and I still don't count calories.  I just count grams of protein.  I try to get 75-80 a day (many people manage more, but I find that difficult.)

I'm with you there Steve.....i don't count calories......I know I'm getting in my required amount of protein...since with my bum knee, I don't exercise too much so I don't have to push the protein as much.  I don't even do shakes anymore or protein bars.....I get it all from food.  I get about 60 - 70 grams of protein a day.  Luckily lyesterday I was dealing with the sugar alcohol monster and OMG I think I lost 10 pounds from it  LOL

Actually, I was not saying YOU can not do anything.  I was explaining the perameters of MY PROGRAM.  That is my surgeons rule.  No vegetarians.  You only eat meat.  Absolutely no carbs.  Not my rules.  Its a very very strict program.  As far as me giving advice, yes I am on solids.  I am about a month behind sommer, but I have several close friends I have been through the weight loss surgery process with.  Besides that, isnt this the point of the board to get everyones OPINION?????  For petes sake you dont have to agree with it.   But you dont have to get huffy because you dont agree with my surgeons rules.  Perhaps you can simply not read my posts if you have that kind of attitude?  Thanks.
