I am not sure what my mother in-law was trying to tell me Christmas, but she gave me a stocking full of all my favorite candy from my former life. Every one just sorta looked like OK what did you get all of that for him for??? My stocking was the only one with just candy. When Greg asked her is she had lost her mind she said no, but it looks like Santa did. I sent the candy back home with her, i hope she is enjoying. I did not want the first taste of the candy.

OMG, but good for you for sending it back.  Some people just plain DON'T GET IT.  Doesn't matter what her reason was, you did the right thing and you deserve a pat on the back.  WAY TO GO!

People just don't give this type of issue a thought. In our case, people think we have everything and tend to pick up these gift packs of food. I think it is an easy thing to do. Plus, they remember that we liked them years before. This year we escaped getting any. Last year we just threw the candy and cookies away when we got home. I had taken some to work but after January 1 no one takes any sweets at the office. They are all on diets.

That was great you sent it home with her.  I am learning to just send blessings to the ignorant and the people that sabatoge us!

I dig.  At work, all my clients sent me gift cookie packages this year.  Didn't know what they were until I opened them and got that face full of cookie air.

Oh,, I just know my mother will do the same thing.... I just brought them up to speed on everything this weekend. She supports it but she's having such a hard time understanding what is about to happen and change that my life is about to change. You mother-in-law sounds like my mother they hear they do not process well. I think her heart was in the right place. She may not have understood.

Don't feel bad because my mom sent me home with her usual plate of "love" (cookies, etc.) I told myself that her cookies are usually stale and overbaked, then gave them to my friend who eats thems. It was a win/win. Best of luck to you!

I don't think people truly *GET* it, but some do and just do things like this to try to see if you will submit to old habits or to sabbotage you.  A girl on another forum said her sister sent her 3lbs of fudge.  Some people just don't like to see others succeed.

Good job in sending it home with her... btw is your MIL over weight?

Well jeff, you were awesome in dealing with it.  I can definitely say that I'm quite lucky with my family in the fact that they ASK me if i can eat something or not before they give it to me.  I totally took the bull by the horns and gave them an education on what I go through and they know fully what i can or cannot have.  one of my christmas presents from my grandmother was a big can of whole cashews LOL  I love her to death!  then she gave me the leftover wheat thins and triscuits!  WOOHOO!  maybe try educating your families on bariatric surgery......although I'm not sure how supportive they are of it.  but i am proud of you for sending it back :)  *HUGE BEAR HUGS*
