I have been lurking around this site for some time now but tonight I found this forum and I am really excited that you all are here. I am still not sure what surgery I will have. I really want the sleeve but my insurance doesn't cover it. I also just found out the the band is not covered for anyone >50 BMI.
The DS and the RNY are scary to me but might be my only options financially. :(

I look forward to making some friends here.

Welcome to this board! We are a supportive bunch here. If you are really interested in the band, there are lots of us on the lapband forum with BMIs over 50 who have  done well. Maybe you could get enough info to convince someone to consider it.

Hey HuskyPapi :)  I hope you have also lurked over at the BMI over 50 forum.  Me and another from here post there too.  it's one thing to need to have WLS....that's what we have in common with everyone here.  However we're kinda unique in the fact that I'm now at the BMI where most people are actually CONSIDERING having it done LOL  I know how you feel about the RNY and the other procedures that re-route your plumbing but I'm one of the very many lucky ones who had hardly any complications from it and as you can see I've done quite well with it.

Welcome! Thanks for coming out of the lurk. Keep thinking and reading until you are comfortable with your choice. At some point you may decide to risk the side effects and permenent changes with the malabsorptive changes rather than continue to risk the consequences of your current weight. That being said, I waited until we could pay for the sleeve because 1) I knew financially that day would come and 2) I knew the sleeve is the best fit for me.

Hi and Welcome. I am so glad you found us. And like the others have already said, ask questions... That is what we are ALL here for.

I am one of the ones that did have a rough time in the beginning, but I am also one of the ones that will tell you, it was 100% worth it. I don't regret "re-working" my plumbing, not for a single second!

Happy Holidays!
I have found a new way of life that has kept me at Goal since 2008.. And keeping it that way!
