Update on me :)

So I am in virtually no pain.  I have occasional soreness.  But definately not enough to warrant medicating.  I am walking well, and drinking ok.  Food smells are tough as are perfumes.  Both make me a bit nauseus.

I am starting to feel weak from no calories.  I am on only jello and broth.  Any suggestions?  I DO NOT want to lose muscle.  I have worked out long and hard for what I got and i dont want to lose it.  I am considering hitting the gym tomorrow and doing the eliptical.  My doc says do what I want, the pain will tell me if I am overdoing it.  Soooooo....any thoughts?

How long were you guys on clear?  I am supposed to be able to add on monday.  My biggest issue is I dont enjoy sweets, so the jello is getting old.  Popsicles too.

After my surgery I was only on clear liquids for a day, then they had me on "full" liquids (carnation instant breakfast, protein shakes). The program I am in gave us a book that spelled out week by week what we could have after surgery. You should call your doctor or nut and ask them when it is ok to move on.

Glad to hear you are doing well.

ETA: the nauseousness over the food smells will eventually lessen, it is tough at first, but hang in there.

Wow! I totally forgot about the nauseating smells! I went throught that too. You sound so much like me. I also don't so sweets, never did. I remember tiring of the jello and freeze pops quickly, but it's been 18 mos. and I can't recall much of my post-op diet. It was more liberal than most, though. I know this was of zero help for ya, but someone will have advice for ya. Take care, Ape

Hello!

I had surgery the same day and I'm in no pain either. EVERYTHING is making me ill though. I am only able to tolerate water and decaf coffee. That's about it. Even thinking about broth or jello makes my stomach turn. In reading other's stories I guess this is part of what happens. Glad to hear you're doing great!

I was on clear liquids once I could get things to pass through and the blockage was over.  I was on clear liquids for a dya then as soon as I got home, I went to full liquids (stuff that was a little thicker like milk products and pudding and stuff).  If you're feeling weak, it may be because you're not getting enough fluids in you.  Are you dizzy at all?  You might be dehydrated. In order to prevent muscle loss, get plenty of protein in.  Sneak your protein powder in everything you eat/drink.  Unjury makes an unflavored protein powder that you can put in virtually everything.  it makes broths a little thicker but at least you're getting your protein in.
