I started my CPAP last night...

Yesterday, I was given my CPAP Machine, and fitted for my Nasal mask.  My machine is so small. It's just a little black box, that weighs about 2 pounds. I thought it was going to be bigger. My mask is the nasal pillows. It fits pretty good and is comfortable. The machine is really quiet too. But, I still could not fall asleep. I'm also just getting over a cold and occasionally, I still go through coughing attacks. Especially at night once I lay down. Well, every time I did this, I ended up taking my mask off. After about 4 times of doing this, and at this time it was almost midnight..I gave up and turned off my machine. I'll try again tonight. I'm really anxious to get through a whole night, so that I can see if I feel any better in the morning.  I kinda feel like I failed myself for giving up last night, but I wanted to fall asleep...please tell me I'm not the only one that couldn't make it through their first night with a CPAP!!!!!!...LOL

you're not the only one hon :)  I couldn't make it through my first night because even with the heated humidifier built into it, I kept drying out and truthfully I can't sleep all night on my back.  I've had my CPAP for a year or so and I think I used it a total of 3 nights LOL  unless they can give me a mask that works with my face in the pillow then I have no use for it.

yeah what Aaron said. I did get used to sleeping on my back but it took FOREVER to do it. I still don't use it much since I hate to sleep on my back yet.

Lisa,

I have had a CPAP for 5 years. From my experience I can tell you that nasal congestion and head colds are terrible when using a CPAP. There are times when I have been so congested that I can not wear the mask. One thing that happens to me in that situation is that I wake up in the middle of the night and am super congested. Your problem may mostly be because of the congestion. It is also something that you need to get used to.

Sweet Dreams!
Tom

I'm glad I'm not alone. I was telling my boss about my experience last night, and she said it took her forever to get used to hers too.I'll give it my best shot again tonight..wish me luck..lol!
