WAY OT: Coffee... Why do people drink it

First thing in the morning people are lined up at the coffee maker.  People come in the door with big jugs of coffee.  Starbucks raked it in big when people could afford coffee.

Will someone PLEASE explain to me the big deal behind cofee?  Hell it might be the root of my obesity (just kidding)

I really don't enjoy the taste all that much... to do so I have to load it up with sugar and cream.. which I'm sure is why 45 minutes later I'm in the WC.

So seriously... is it like nicotine?  Is it good for ADD?  Or do people truly enjoy the taste

What am I  missing out on?

Fill me in please :-(

This is so funny.   I know where you're coming from, but I am such an addict and I do love the taste.   I had surgery a week ago and stopped drinking coffee about 5 days before so that I wouldn't have to deal with caffeine withdrawl coming out of surgery.   Today is 10 days out of surgery and I had my first cup of coffee this morning.   It was heaven.   And I have been in such a good mood all day (coffee is actually a mild anti-depressant, along with a mild appetite suppressant and of course a stimulant - the perfect package!)

I drink mine black but it does still have the bowel stimulating effect.   Since I've been dealing with post-surgery narcotic induced constipation, that is also welcome.

I love Starbucks, too.

Anyway, way back in college I couldn't drink it without about 4 half-and-half creamers and that was after years of not being able to drink it at all.   It's an acquired taste.

Have you tried it iced?  (like all addicts, I'm always trying to get others addicted to my drugs....)

For me it's the taste and the 1 last indulgent I have. There's nothing like coffee from freshly ground Columbian beans with real cream.
My colleagues call me the Coffee Snob...mmmm

Ahh, a topic I can sink my teeth into LOL

I love coffee. I mean REALLY love it  Not to the point where I need 12 shots of espresso to get through the day (I actually knew a guy who was like that), but there's nothing better to me than a big cup o joe with a nice flavored cream. Especially this time of year - some of the creamers they have out are super yummy.

In answer to your question though, yes, it's a taste thing but it's also a mentally soothing thing. For so long the first sign that my day is beginning has been that first cup of coffee. Before that I'm zombiegrrl. Once I have it, no matter how bad I feel, there's a part of me that says ok I still have this thing that I enjoy. There's also a social element with me. A lot of my closest friends and I became that way because of long hours spent at Starbucks or sitting on some one's porch drinking coffee and shootin the breeze.

Just my 2 cents

I hate coffee, yuck! I've never liked it and probably never will. So I don't get it either LOL!

lol, funny you should bring this up.  I have drank coffe for so many years now.  I grew up in Europe where we start drinking coffee pretty early.  My entire life since middle school I would have to have 2-3 cups a day.  It is like a drug, lol.

Now that I have had surgery, I have no desire for coffee.  I will drink a cup but it does not taste the same.  Strange.

ooh now.. I don't consider Frappucino coffee... that's more like a milkshake.

But.. here's my question

Post op... is there a way to order a frappuchino that's RNY friendly?

Do they make no fat whipped cream?  Can they make it with no fat creamer?
Or do I add this to my no-no list post op?

I really do like a good Chai Frappuchino... and if you get the right barrista you can get them to make a Salted Carmel Hot Chocolate Frappuchino
