Sleep Apnea

Hey by any chance do any of you guys have sleep apnea? I was diagnosed a few months ago and they're about to give me a CPAP machine. Originally I was going to wait for my surgery and not worry about it but I'm tired all the freakin time. To the point where I can't work out because I don't have any energy. It's driving me insane . Well, ok...MORE insane LOL

Anyone with any experience with this would definately help.

I don't but my g/f has it - she is overweight and hoping to get the lapband and "toss that CPAP out of the window" as she says. She hates it and rarely uses it. She says she sleeps less with it on and I have noticed it. I know I personally couldn't sleep with a big ass mask on my face.

But good luck and hopefully after surgery you won't need the darn thing either!

I have a CPAP and have been using it for about 11 months now.  I love my machine and have noticed a world of difference using it.  I have one of the nasal pillows and it works great and is not bulky like the full face mask.  I do need to go in now that i have had my bypass and get the air flow adjusted.  It will take you about a week to get use to this.

I'm still using a CPAP at 1 year post-op.  My pressures are WAY down, but I apparently still need it.  Like Scott, I've switched to the nasal pillows, which are extremely comfortable and not at all claustrophobic.

I've been using my CPAP for about 1.5 years. It took me, like the others here, about a week to get used to me. I used the nasal mask with the plastic pillows. The hardest part for me was sleeping with my mouth closed. This took some time. Now, it's addictive. I have to sleep with it and gives me a great night of sound sleep. My partner appreciates this more than my snoring.

I just found out last month that I have Sleep Apnea. Tomorrow I go in to see what my results are from my second sleep study. I already know I need the CPAP, and I'm hoping for the nasal pillows as well. They worked great during my sleep study. I felt so much better after my second sleep study. The CPAP made a big difference.

I have severe obstructive sleep apnea. I'd get the CPAP. It will take a while to get used to, but you'll start to feel better before you know it.

My wife and I were both diagnosed with sleep apnea during our pre-op testing.  Mine was very mild and I was able to forego the CPAP.  But, my wife's was so severe that she had to have hers.  She said it made a world of difference in her fatique IMMEDIATELY!!!

The fatigue is what's really killing me right now. I'm so (for lack of a better term) tired of it. I'm looking forward to getting a good night's sleep again.

Has your sleep doc considered a trial prescription of Provigil for your fatigue?  Obviously, getting your sleep apnea treated will address this, but the Provigil should help right out of the gate.  My sleep doc prescribed it for me, and it worked fine, though once I was on the CPAP, I didn't find that I needed it anymore.
