Thanksgiving Dinner
I am planning my Thanksgiving dinner. I always cook the dinner for my family. I will hlave traditional food for most folks. I am looking for bariatric friendly recipes and ideas for other items. It's my first Thanksgiving since being banded. What do you experienced folks serve and eat at these holiday dinners? I loved the recipe for the pumpkin mousse. I am making it for sure. -- Tom

Good question!
I plan on just eating what is there besides the desserts. My Grandmother makes the usual traditional stuff too and it's all stuff I've had already. I'll probably choose dark meat since it will be more moist.
I've had pumpkin muffins too recently and everything went ok. So probably anything pumpkin would be ok, but I'm picky so I skip the pies all together!

Can't help you on this Tom! (BTW: you so don't look as old as you are. I saw the age on your site and about died.) I am worried since I will be going to a traditional Italian dinner. That puppy is 7 courses if you count appitizers that are just sitting out to graze on. I won't be eating all the courses since the "fruit cup" course is juice and prolly not eat the "fruit and nut" course since I will be too full and prolly going to feed the dog. I know last time at Easter I got sick But I blaime the Shatzkie's Ring since I was admitted to the hospital the next weekend since I couldn't keep anything down.

Thanks for your response on my age! Man, I have been to those Italian holiday dinners. They are quite an experience. I plan on just taking small portions of some traditional foods and being very careful. I am also looking to lighten some dishes and maybe use some new ones. -- Tom from Ohio (back from Vegas to cold, snowy reality in Ohio)

You're welcome. People say the same about me. Must be all the fresh Buckeye air.
It's funny when I tell people about Holiday dinners here they can't believe it. It's obscene and getting worse since I can't eat much.

Well, I am posting some lightened recipes, but love what others have to contribute too. Today I am posting a great sweet potato dish I found a few years back. It's east and a nice twist on the over sweet traditional recipes. http://blog.beariatric.com/ -- Tom

Baked yams - ah, you know, like potatoes only yams
My skinny-always, low-carb mom does sweet potatoes + raisins + walnuts + bit of butter in a covered casserole dish - yummy.
Sugar free cranberry relish - we make it tart and like it lots better than the sweet stuff.
