Preop Diet

So i use Sparkpeople to track my workouts and nutrition.  I tracked my food on this preop diet and it wound up being less than 900 calories, and almost 100 grams protien.  Not sure that is balanced. I am struggling because  it is just enough to make me hungry.  If I did not eat at all, I would do better.

Do any of your doctors not allow anything with flavor between meals?  Our rule is three meals, no snacks.  Anything you eat or drink with flavor is considered a snack.  So no tea, coffee, snapple, crystal light, etc.  WATER only.  I just worry that this is such a restrictive rule.  I am drinking ho****er in the morning to sub out my coffee, but gosh.  Decaf would be so nice on this low cal diet.

I have read so many different docs approaches, induction phase of atkins, liquid, etc.  I guess my point is if they are just trying to induce Ketosis, then wouldnt any of this work?

I have a plan to have my last dinner at my favorite restaurant with a group of friends this weekend.  Some of them were across the country and we were waiting for them. I was not planning on starting this diet until monday, but the coordinator told me to start it on this Tuesday.   Will that totally derail my diet?  I am going to a local steakhouse.  I figured I will not eat the potato, no soda and just really enjoy the ribeye.  Still high protien and would be atkins friendly.  I figured it would be better to have one night off the diet than to miss a whole week of dieting.  Any thoughts?

Geez -- my doctor recommended losing weight prior to surgery as it would allow for a safer procedure, with less likelihood of complications, however it was not a requirement, nor was there any pre-surgical regimen.  We were given menu guidelines by the nut which looked very much like the Weigh****cher's plan!  Two nights before surgery, I opted to have 2 cups of "Smooth Move" herbal tea (no bowel prep was required, but I thought it might be a good idea to "clear out"), then the day before surgery I only had liquids.  I don't understand why anything with "flavor" is considered a snack, but I am sure your doctor has good reason.  As I said in an earlier thread, it really amazes me how different each doctor's protocol can be.  The bottom line is, in time this will be just another "war story" of what you had to go through in order to reclaim your life and health.

Hang in there.  I'm pulling for you, as is the rest of your family here.  We're all survivors.

Besides, who needs flavor when you have good taste...

Hi

My preop was protein shakes the unjury kind and cream of chicken or cream of tomato made with milk, they were the meals 8oz per meal, I could eat as much sugar free jello as I wanted and sugar free ice pops, and crystal lite etc, as it was low/no cal, I aksi could have decaf coffee with non fat milk, I lost I think it was 24 pounds in two weeks and it was tuff but your diet seem much more extreme, maybe you can incorp some no cal items?

Have your dinner, one night will not kill you. Hell girl, you are eating stricter than I do. My doctor said nothing with calories or caffeine for drinks. Unfortunately for me that leaves me with water and herb tea. I am allergic to sweeteners so I am water only 99% of the time. I am a firm believer of following the rules your doctor sets but drink something other than water! I have NEVER heard of that and I have been around for 2 years. That's counting my investigating, pre-op and post-op.

I shall now be know as Hagatha: Queen of the queens.
