Sushi.. Yes or No?
OK, here's the story. I love sushi. On many boards people say that it is a no-no. I asked my surgeon about it at my last fill. He told me that I could have it with a few conditions. (1) Sashimi (no rice) is perfect since it is high protein. (2) Rolled sushi is also fine if the roll is fresh since the sticky rice is less sticky. That seems to be a mixed message from posts on weight loss boards but I know everyone is different.
I am in Vegas this week where there is a nice assortment of high quality sushi shops. This is not the case in Ohio. The other night Brett and I shared a roll with no issue. We are contemplating on having dinner tonight at a sushi bar. I really don't want to be ill my last night in Vegas.
What are your experiences with sushi? Any suggestions on what to avoid or what to order?

first a question back to you. Do you plan on drinking - anything - on your last nite in Vegas? if you said yes, then I'd stay away from Sushi as that darn lil rice that is so good with it will blow your tummy up something awful.I can usually eat 3 small rolls, but have to not drink for a long time after... just something to think of... and have fun in Vegas...
here in Vancouver we have sushi restaurants on every corner and many good ones, so ya, this is a staple for me. I have been many times with no problems.
I eat the sashimi with no problems, we are talking 100% soft protein.
I am careful with the rolls though becuase my tummy does not appreciate the rice, yet I can have up to 3 rolls if they are fresh.
I also can do Miso soup but not my favorite.
One of the restaurants I frequent makes a killer beef udon soup. That makes 3 meals for me.
I say enjoy!

How do you do with rice? If you can tolerate it I would say go for it. I see no reason not to. Good luck with it. And remember if you do get sick, it is the last night and won't ruin the rest of your trip. The reasoning behind that is I went to Mexico and did not even look outside w/o 1000 SPF sunblock. The last day I was more relaxed about it and got a little sun since it was my last day and it wouldn't ruin the vacay.

I have been so worried about this as well, but for me, it is the veggie sushi like cucumber rolls. That was one of my staples before surgery. God, I hope I can still eat cucumber and avocado rolls!!

We decided against sushi, but ate at a Chinese noodle restaurant, Mainland Noodles. Dinner did not go well for me. I ordered Ginger beef. It was too tough and caused me to slime a little. The rice noodles seemed to work OK.
