Irritating Hoop Jumpin BS (long rant)

Yes, I'm sure that my surgeon has my best interest at heart. Surely all his friends and coworkers have their yachts paid off by now.

So first, my iron is low. Alright, a bit anemic, staturation a bit low (25%). Maybe I should start taking iron. My supplements have always been iron free and never a problem till they started pulling 10 vials of blood at a time. (just kidding - I know doing the tests didn't cause the anemia) But no, we want everything to be in line to heal from surgery, so he wants me to get five iron infusions before surgery. These take 1 1/2 - 2 hrs per session. What do they cost - I didn't even ask!!! Good thing everyone around knows I am having WLS - they do these at the local outpatient chemotherapy center. Way to start a rumor - out for surgery, loosing weight, seen at the oncology center, nother surgery, rapid wt loss.

Now, there is a 'slight' abnormality in my EKG. The MA won't tell me what it is. I must wait until I have my (now manditory) cardiology clearance ($200-300), I will review it then with the cardiologist. The billing office lady says (what does she know about my medical status) that they 'almost always' go ahead and schedule a nuclear stress test ($1985). Do I want to schedule my appointment today so they can be sure to get this all done by my final presurgical appt Dec 4th?

Then the surgeon's MA tells the PCP's MA that they don't have a copy of my EKG; makes it sound like they have no idea what I'm talking about. Hospital doesn't have it scanned into the computer yet, so my PCP's office is hamstrung for the moment.

My PCP will pursue it on Monday. If the internist at their office thinks there is anything abnormal, they will refer me to one of their local cardiologists, and do the insurance preauth. Trouble is, the 'new' 'efficient' method of referals at the PCP office is now taking 8-10 days instead of being 24 hours. Probably it is a CYA/ economic stimulis package component for the local bariatric center of excellence. More likely that they didn't get a lead attached right than I have some 'slight' abnormality which would cause problems in the OR.

Honey, are you SURE we don't want to go to Mexico?????

Thanks for listening. It always makes me feel stupid to rant, because me rational side can see the mature view. But it feels good to let it out and stomp up and down a bit. Then I can go back and try to live from my mature adult.

Assertiveness at the time of the challenge is still a growth area.
