How does that upper gi stuff taste?

So I am having my pre-admit stuff done on Nov 4th....first blood work, then abdominal u/s, and then that lovely upper gi.....I have never had an upper gi and was wondering HOW BAD the stuff you have to drink taste? Either way I have to do it, but I need to mentally prepare for the nasty tasting stuff.

So, on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being 5lbs of dog crap, marinated in used kitty litter for 2 weeks, and then boiled down into a liquid to be used as barium in an upper gi,  and 1 being somewhat tolerable.

I have not tasted it, but I have spoken to the patients at the hospital I work at and from what they've said I'm guessing it's between a 6 and 7. Some people suggest you chug it, some suggest you refrigerate it.

OMG..I am gonna , I just know it...but thats ok I am just gonna concentrate on getting through it and making it to my big day...Can't they make it taste like a milkshake?

well it's about 6-7..not like lemonaid from Chick-fil -a..but drink it fast while it's cold..chug that sucker...do not sip...

the really nasty soap bubbles tasting stuff is from the leak test...

and this is coming from a guy who swallows some questionable stuff...

Taste is not somehow the issue. If you made a soda consistency beverage that 'tasted' like it, there probably wouldn't be all that much taste. It's the, well, mouthfeel + taste + smell + undefinable something. Citrus chalk with castor oil's a pretty decent summary. 

 I know.  You'd think that with all the advancements we've made in medicine they'd be able to make contrast taste a little better.  GoToMan, you are killing me!  

I have had 3 upper gi's and I never had to drink anything. I did have to do barium when I had a CT scan. That was the nastiest stuff next to well, nevermind. (That's just a mental game mostly for me). The barium I had was slimey and I felt like I had to swallow it twice. It wasn't the taste that got me cause I didn't think it wasn't that bad. Not saying I want the flavor as a daily drink, but it wasn't the flavor that got me. It was the texture. Good luck with it.
