I need to use a CPAP
Yesterday, I had an appointment with my sleep doctor to discuss how my sleep study went on October 19th. I was told that I have severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea, and after my next sleep study, I'm required to start using a CPAP. The study showed that I stopped breathing 15 times, and I had shallow breathing 125 times. My oxygen level was 83%. I was fitted yesterday for a mask, which I hate..but I know I have to do this. I went through a slight breakdown yesterday due to being so overwhelmed with everything, and I blamed myself for being so overweight. I feel that if I could only have had control over my life and my body, I would be going through so much. But, I know I'm doing the best thing for "ME" now by going forward with WLS! I just never imagined I would ever need a CPAP, or I would ever be on meds, but I am, and it's no ones fault but mine...
I just need to look forward and prepare myself the best I can for my WLS...I'm sure I'll be fine!!

That's what I was told.. All my doctors have said that once I start losing weight, I should be off all meds and the CPAP. But it was a real downer yesterday, and a real eye opener. I know I just need to be patient, but sometimes it's easier said than done. Thank you for being so sweet and supportive..*hugs*
I have a full face mask due to I breathe through my nose and my mouth. When I tried it on, I didn't realize how tight it needs to be. I'm hoping it doesn't take long to get used to. I am looking forward to sleeping better. I haven't had a real good nights sleep in a year. I was thinking about the approval issue now that I'm required the CPAP. I have been worried about getting denied after jumping through all these hoops, and I was hoping the CPAP would help get me approved...Thanks for lifting my spirits a bit..*hugs*
When I was much younger in whole different life my husband had severe sleep apnea. He refused to treat it and had a stroke from not breathing in his sleep. At 36. A bleed on his brain stem. So I guess my point is, there are worse things than the mask, and thank heavens they found it! Just one more point in your favor for WLS. Imagine waking up in the morning rested! There are so many positives!

The CPAP will change your life. No more falling asleep during the day. It takes about 3 weeks to see the benefit, or at least it did for me, but it is WELL worth it. I am down about 70lbs and I still use mine because I still snore a bit, but I noticed the pressure is much lower now. I use it every night.
Lisa, I have had a CPAP for years. It takes just a little time to get used to it. As you pointed out, there are many health situations that you avoid by using it. And... after you lose enough weight, you may be able to get rid of it. Actually, there is a very good chance. In terms of masks, I've had them all. I now use the nasal pillow. I like it the best. It's mostly because of my mustache and goatee. The other masks seemed to never be completely sealed. Don't let this get you down. It's one more step on the way to better health. -- Tom
