OT:worried about my spouse

My wife just had surgery on Monday (not WLS) and she is still bleeding from her incision sites.  She is all the way across the country in Montreal, so I'm not there to talk to anybody.  She has low platelets (around 100,000) so is that why?  She says the doc is on top of it, but I am worried.  Any medical types here?  Is this normal?

Those platelets are low.  It looks like they should be between 140,000 - 400,000 per mcL (Looking at my past blood test results)  I wonder if they have her on a blood thinner so she doesn't develop clots that could lead to thrombosis.  I know they gave me blood thinners after my surgery as well as those compression bags on my legs that keep inflating so I wouldn't devlop clotting.  Of course they also "sewed" me up with super glue too LOL

I don't know but just wanted to say try to breath and relax. Again, one of those things easier said than done. I am sure Sharyn or Sean will chime in at some point today about this post. Good luck.

Platelets  help the blood to clot. She is most likely bleeding due to that and it would be worsened if they gave her a blood thinner (which is very likely). I if it you  share  what type of surgery  I might be able to give you more info....Oh ya I am a nurse

Her platelets have always been low, a couple years ago they were down to 80,000.  She gets them checked every 6 months or so.  Sean, thanks, I'll pm you about the surgery as I don't feel ok with disclosing it without her ok.
Thanks Kathy, I'll start breathing.......

Hi there,

Wish her the best for me. I lurk on the site most of them time since it's been so long since I had my surgery. I don't log on everyday like I used to. I have to tell you though, I had open RNY and about a week after surgery, my incision started to bleed a bit. Went back to the surgeon and told me not not worry about it. My incision continue to bleed a little and ooze fluid for about 8 weeks afterwards. I had to wear a bandage and change it several times a day, otherwise it would seep through my shirts. It was an inconvenience, but everything healed fine. It was worth it to have it checked out, but I wouldn't worry so much as long as the blood isn't just pouring out.
