I take calcium citrate + vitamin D chewable that i get from drugstore.com (the pharmacies are where I live don't carry chewable anything it seems), I also take flintstones complete chewables and vitamin b12 DOTS sublingual.  i take the calcium and the flintstones twice a day and the b12 I take two once a week.

Hey Aaron - I noticed that you are not taking any Iron.... I really think you need to start.  You may want to talk to your Dr but I was told that the iron had to be the ferrous fumarate and not the other type (which sorry I can't remember what it is)  I take Vitron-C.... I get it from CVS.  Also I noticed that you are not taking any B1 or B complex.... not sure you read my post to Jerry but I have issues now with my short term memory (not bad just a little harder to remember things) but they determined it was due to a lack of B1 and B complex.   Also you might want to take the dots daily.  Again, this is just my thoughts but being 4 years out and finally finding a Dr who is will to understand that I am not "normal" - there would have been things that I would have done differently in the beginning.

Take care!
Valerie :)

Hey pretty lady!  You might want to read my post to Aaron and to Jerry.... being 4 years out, there are a few words of wisdom that I have tried to pass along.  I really think you need to pick up on the B12 and Iron.  I am glad to see you are taking a B complex.... there are some serious issues that can happen due to lack of vitamins..... some I wish I had known about when I was a newbie!

If you PM me your email address, I will be glad to send you the "list" of all the blood work and vitamins that have been suggested for RNYers.....

Have a great day!
Valerie :)

Jerry - I have a list that has been recommended by long term RNYers plus a list of blood work that needs to be done.  I will tell you that even though I took my vitamins like I should my levels were "normal" for normal folks but low for RNYers. However because they were in the normal range, my Dr. was not concerned.  Not until I saw a post from someone with what the suggestive levels should be was I concerned.    My short term memory really suffered because of the lack of B's..... I took the B12 sublingual 3X a day but did not focus on anything else.  Now I take a shot of B12 once a week and take B1 and B complex daily beside the other vitamins.  It has taken me a while to get back up to "normal RNY" levels but I have.  The memory thing is a freaky thing so please stay on top of it!  I wish when I started out someone was as blunt with me about vitiamins and their importance!!!!

If you PM me your email address I will be glad to send you the list that someone provided to me.... my poor Dr.... I made her keep a copy in my file plus I always bring it with me when I have my blood work done. (which by the way, is like 9-12 viles of blood so make sure you eat well before and fast the morning of your blood work)

Oh yeah Valerie!  I just had bloodwork done last week to prepare for my 6 month follow up.  I thought they would drain me dry LOL  the last time I think I was borderline deficient in vitamin A and D but everything else was "normal" as far as a non-wls human being goes.

Glad to hear that you are having full bloodwork done - if you want the "list" (as my Dr calls it)  PM me your email address and I will be glad to send it to you.  This was created by a Dr and his patients however as always consult your Dr.... see what they say.  Unfortunatly my Dr had 2 lapbands and only 1 RNY so she had really not gotten into the "gravy" of what was needed until I brought all, and I mean all my documentation that I had gathered to her.  I guess people feel like they should know but since we are SPECIAL I think it is important to make sure they treat us that way!!  Now she has something like 15 lapbands and I know of 6 RNYs that go to her.  I told her she should be me a break since I have sent so much business her way..... LOL!!!

Hi Jerry,

My surgeon recommended "Optisource" bariatric vitamins. he said it gives you all the nutrients needed for RNY patients. You take 4 a day, 2 in the am and 2 in the pm. He said then depending on my blood test, because I am a woman, I may need to take additional iron. He says he has had really good results from patients using Optisource. He also recommended Bariatric Advantage, but you have to add Calcium Citrate and also vitamin D and something else I forgot. The bariatric advantage sounded to confusing for me, so I am going for the Optisource.

Has your surgeon recommended anything?
