Hi guys, I'm 2 weeks postop and having a hell of a time getting 60 g of protein and 48 oz of fluids in me. I'm drinking Isopure which I like (40 g protein in 20 oz fluid). However, I feel constantly full, from the moment I get up. It's a struggle getting all my requirements in and somewhat discouraging too.  Any suggestions?  Carla       (PS 17 lb loss in 2 weeks)

Unfortunately there is no easy answer...you just have to keep sipping, sipping, sipping. It is hard to get through at first, but it will get better.

Hang in there!

Carla - in all honesty I don't think you can get in 60 grams in the beginning however I think they want you to strive for as much as you can.  Don't give up!  I promise it will get easier - actually now for me, 4 years out, I can eat anything! (Which is not a good thing as far as I am concerned!!!) But I continue to get in 60 g - sometimes I can, and sometimes I can't.   I will tell you my trick in the beginning - instead of drinking anything like water or tea,  I would drink slim fast low carb.  I would take a couple of sips - stick it a plastic up with lid and stick it back in the fridge.  And when I wanted something really cold and crunchy - I would freeze the slim fast.  Nothing exciting but it has 20 g of protein and the taste is not that bad.

You are doing a great job -17lbs in 2 weeks!  You are right on target!  Keep up the good works and don't get down - it will get better!  I promise!!!

Valerie :)

Carla,

I am a couple days shy of my 4 month post op.... I hear what you are saying, and I thought i woudl never be able to get all that in... Give it a little time and it will all work out my friend..  How else are you getting your protein in?  I used the protin powders and made shakes with them, and still do..
Have you tried GREEK YOGURT?  The greek yogurt is so yummy, 1 cup is 20 grams of protein.. I would use a 1/2 cup and mix it in with my protein powder and make a smoothie.. I even used the protein bullets... Just some ideas.....If you need anything hit me up..

Hugs

Scott

I am opposite.  I am one week out and feel like I could eat anything.  I take soy prot twice a day I mix with soy milk...that gets in my full 60...I have no problem "gulping" and actually have to slow myself down.    I wish I felt fuller.  I am craving bread like there is no tomorrow

When you're first out, they tell you to concentrate more on liquids first and then proteins.  The worst thing that can happen right now is for you to be dehydrated.  I couldn't make my marks either and I got really bad dehydrated for 2 weeks straight!  Then things got better.  You're doing great so far!  Keep drinking (and remember your isopure counts as liquids too).  Try some sugar free popsicles and stuff like that.  Anything to keep you hydrated.  Once you got the hang of your fluids, then try bumping up your protein.  As for me, I put protein powder in everything I ate and drank so protein was not a problem for me but i always had an issue with liquids because 1 I hated water and 2 the crystal light I used to drink now makes me sick.  I did find something I can live with and that was diet lipton white tea/peach papaya flavor.  I drink that like it's going out of style as well as coffee.

I'm 5 months out and I've just recently been able to get all my fluids in.  It is a battle so I understand what you're going through.

My shakes counted as fluid so I thought I was doing bad and then found out I was just a few oz's off from where they had wanted me. It was easy to get the protein in with the shakes. I used Beneprotein at first then I switched to Unjury. I used to make smoothies after a while with fresh fruit, Unjury, Greek yogurt, and a little water. Not sure what that counted for for fluids but I got over 20 g. of protein in about 15 ozs. To be honest... I still have a hard time getting all the fluid in. I am now shooting for 2 liters but I get close to 48 ozs a day in. Good luck!

I shall now be know as Hagatha: Queen of the queens.
