Questions about the two week liquid diet and calories
Hey guys and gals,
I am on the two week liquid diet and it's day two, I have been following the book they gave me about the types of liquids to have and what I am confused about is how many calories, yesterday it added up to 650 cals for the day, and that seems a tad low but then I guess after surgery it will be like that, I dunno, all I know is I am ready to gnaw on someones arm.
What did you all do?

Sorry you are hungry! Can't help ya, but... when you gnaw someone's arm, would it be best to go after a stranger... or risk alienating a friend?

As far as the liquid diet goes.....it's important to do it because it may be the determining factor on whether your operation is laparoscopic or open! the more you lose, the smaller your liver will be able to maneuver around by the surgeon. I had two weeks of liquids (well I was on liquids for most of 9 months LOL) and drink a protein shake at least twice a day. You can do the ready to drink ones. I think I used Glucerna for diabetics (even though I was never a diabetic) but the carbs were low in it. I used that in addition to an ungodly amount of crystal light (which i can't stand now) oh and coffee if you're a coffee drinker. use splenda instead of sugar and anything sugar free for your creamer if you take cream and sugar in your coffee. You can do it (you'll be sloshing around but it's really worth it).
I did a four week liquid diet pre-op. Mine was Optifast, and was supposed to add up to 960 calories per day. Realistically, I had more like 800 calories per day during that time, since I usually missed one during the day.
After surgery, for a while you'll likely feel like you are forcing yourself to even drink protein drinks, not to mention all the water you need to get down. You'll be doing the same thing, but it feels completely different.
