I am trying to get everything lined up that I need to take to the hospital on Tuesday. I was wondering if there was anything that they don't tell you to bring that you took and were glad you had or something you wish you had taken.

I would suggest you bring your cellphone if you have one and the comfiest, stretchiest clothing you have. I was pretty out of it so I didn't need a book or my laptop but I do see some people update messageboards the day of or the day after surgery, so maybe I was an exception.

I am not sure about what rny people need but I know a pillow to press on the stomach area when walking sitting and going over bumps.  Also my partner brought in a travel mug and filled it with ice chips for the ride home!!
I know this is so exciting and Good luck to you!!~Ann~

I was over prepared...had my own PJs, facial wash, etc.  I was so doped up, I could have cared less about what I had brought.  Def. a cell phone because every one and their mom will want to call you.  I had family and friends there 24-7 and do not even remember due to the morphine.  Maybe magazines if you are not into TV.  CHapstick was good.  You will be sooooo dry right after surgery...take advantage of the ice chips.  I went through three pitchers a day.

Wishing you all the best and a speedy recovery Jmacon.

I took all kinds of magazines and a book, PJ's, cell phone, and of course my makeup, but didnt care about any of them!!! I had told my partner, "I WILL make sure my face is on everyday, just so I will feel better.", but to be honest, I didnt care what the hell I looked like while I was there. There wasnt enough makeup to make me feel better.
Best advice, just lay back and let friends and family take care of you and retrieve all the phone calls (I made my daughter take ALL my phone calls) and REST!!!!!!
Have a fabuuuuuu weekend and a wonderful "last supper". (I know I will probably get blasted for that comment, but I had a friggin "Happy Meal" and really regret not having something that I REALLY wanted!!!!) So enjoy this last weekend.

I brought chapstick; your lips are so dry "you will need it"  I also bought Oasis water spray, your mouth is so dry and you just spray some Oasis and keep your mouth  hydrated. One last thing eye mask to help you sleep but of course you won't since the nurse wakes you every other hour. To be honest about magazines, laptops etc. I would not bring,  at that state you don't care about anything; you just want to rest and recover.
Hope  this helps. GOOD LUCK

I am a total book worm so I HAD to take a book and my MP3 player. Didn't use either. I lived for the lip balm and breath spray I took. Even if you have swabbie things for your mouth the spray helps you keep your mouth moist naturally. I had to wear a binder and was told to take a tank top so it was more comfy. If you have to wera one I suggest taking tank tops/ t-shirts to put the binder over. It's more comfy that way.

Yeah I agree with everyone.  it may be better to over-prepare than under.  Everything that I brought with me to the hospital, they wouldn't let me have in my room....so it all stayed with my parents until the day I went home whi*****luded a nice oversized pair of sweatpants and an oversized t-shirt.  One thing I wished I had with me fromt he beginning were my sneakers because those socks they have you wear severely dries out your feet.  mine actually cracked open.  and after my thrid day of walking those rubber treads on the soles of the socks really hurt and it was like walking on air when i finally put my sneakers on.  You will have severely dry mouth.  the nurse will bring you ice chips to let melt in your mouth but as far as entertainment goes.......you won't really need it until maybe the swallow test day.  not surewhat they will make you do, but i couldn't leave the hospital until i drank a whole liter of liquids.  for me, that took 8 hours and just everyone sitting around and watching me drink is quite boring LOL.  I had to stay an extyra day because where my pouch and intestines meet up swelled shut so i had a blockage and we had to wait for the swelling to go down.

I think you have gotten plenty of advice.. I just wanted to stress the chapstick... I swear I ate it my lips were so chapped and dry.

Good luck!
I have found a new way of life that has kept me at Goal since 2008.. And keeping it that way!
