Today I finally got my medical records in the mail. After months and months of waiting for them to arrive finally they have been processed and are in my hot little 70 pounds liter hands.
I was EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! However,,, As with a lot of things that have caused me much anxiety there is  a problem...

The records that came from the copy right agency,,,, are wrong.

According to these records I am about 5 -8 years younger (they have the wrong birth date. I have MS, have had back surgery, LOW Blood pressure, and am hypochondriac, and 3 years ago I nearly cut my leg off with a chain saw.  There are even Blood test results that appear to be someone Else's. There are a FEW THINGS in the record that seam to be correct like my tendon damage in my shoulder 1 and 3 year ago.  Earache,, 2 years ago, and a back flue 1.5 years ago.  However there are doctors orders in here for MRI's and a mention of Surgery performed to crct the problem that I NEVER HAD and never had an order for.  WHAT??? Now there are three other guys in the same county as I who have the same name or almost. We all have different Initials and actually one spells is name differently.
These are SO F_ _ _ _ _ up...
I would assume that the insr co. could turn me down with all these discrepancies.. Anyone else have this problem EVER?????
How did you deal with it????

I JUST NEEDED TO VENT SORRY FOR THE LONG STORY...

Take it easy. Contact the agency asap and explain the situation. I know that it is hard to believe in your current state, but it's amost certain that they will see you are right and correct the issue. I would contact my surgeon's office and tell them too. They are most likely acting as the intermediary between you and the insurance company. It would be flag for them to keep in mind when working with them when processing your claim.  -- Tom

Thank you................. I just HATE that I have to wait till MONDAY....... My paper work is supposed to be sent in 11/1 I hope this wont delay me much further.  If this gets screwed up... I sware Im going to be SO MADDDDDDDDDDDDD. I have an OBGYN that works for the health care system I go to.. Her Husband is also an Attorney who works with medical cases... Im going over to talk to them tomorrow to see if they have any advice. I have left Phone msgs..... Sent them emails already... I not just worried that I have someone esle's private medical info.. But, that someone else may have mine. This would have to be a HUGE violation of HIPPA Law I mentioned that in my msgs and email so I hope that means I'll geta QUICK response.

WOW,

That is really messed up!!! When you talk to your surgeons office and especially the company who sent you the records, Tell them that they broke the federal law by violating the HIPPA privacy and portability laws. You have no legal right to see anyone elses records without their written consent, and they have no right to see yours. I would be worried that my personal health information has been sent to someone else....Tell them you want it corrected right away and you don't want to wait forever for your CORRECT medical records.....If you use the HIPPA thing and be very serious about it,they will jump through hoops to correct it.  If they don't, they risk HEFTY fines, as well as a possible law suite from the violated parties.

Keep us informed, as someone who works in health care, I can tell you this is s HUGE mistake.

PS... ask for a supervisor

good luck

How incredibly outrageous!  I can totally understand your frustration.  When I applied for life insurance a number of years ago, the insurance company requested a copy of my medical records.  Instead of sending only my treatment records as instructed, the doctor's office also sent copies of the "physician's notes."  These are transcripts of patient-doctor discussions made during the course of office visits.  This breach of confidentiality was bad enough, but there were very significant mistakes!  For example, instead of noting that I attended an O.A. (Overeater's Anonymous) meeting -- it became part of my permanent medical record that I was in A.A.!!  In a discussion of weight loss options, I mentioned knowing of someone who had great success after WLS.  My medical records noted that I was planning to have a gastric bypass!  It was hard enough for an obese 40-something woman with hypertension to obtain life insurance -- add "alcoholic" and "gastric bypass" to the mix (keep in mind, this was years ago), and it becomes just about impossible.  In addition, the insurance company accused me of providing false information by not disclosing "my alcoholism" on my application! At the time, I had just closed on a business and the previous owner was holding the note.  I was contractually obligated to have a life insurance policy in place within six months of the closing.  Because of the mistakes in my records, I was in danger of losing my business due to breach of contract! This was an incredibly frustrating experience which took time and effort to resolve.  Eventually, I was able to get my records corrected, the doctor's office sent a letter to the insurance company, and I managed to get coverage.  It was amazing how quickly things moved once my attorney became involved! (As a "courtesy," the doctor's office paid my attorney's fees -- I guess they were grateful for not being sued.)After our experience, I recommend that people periodically request a copy of their medical records and carefully review them for mistakes.

What is really AWFUL here is that I remember going into the ER LAST WINTER because of PAIN IN MY LEFT SHOULDER.. I noticed my birthday listed on the top of the record was wrong. I told the lady who did the admitting. She said that was no big deal she would make note of it and have the change made.. I guess I should have asked for a copy of my records then..

Not trying to make light of the situation BUT... if someone would get your records the same way you got theirs, whould they know who's reacords it was? I wouldn't stress about someone having my records in that case. I would be pissed as hell tho. I would also call your insurace carrier and tell them what is going on too so that they are aware of it. Good luck in getting this fixed.

If they looked at the name and date of birth info yes.. It was very clear. My middle int is A his was J I was born in 68 he was born in 73.
Im really not worried about who sees what on me. I mean I have nothing in my records that I wouldnt share with anyone who asked. The concern was that these record are critical in getting insr apprvl for me. I was told right from the beginning they have to be crrct and I just find it extremely disheartening that a DOCTORS office and a HOSPITAL two places you trust with you LIFE,, could make such a mistake. I understand HUMAN ERROR, that happens, but in s situation where your LIFE may depend on it that information, there should be NO ERRORS..
I'm grateful that my issue wasnt bigger then WEIGHT LOSS. What if I had been taken into the hospital unable to speak for myself and they had to rely on that info to save my life. Thats part of the reason a medical history is taken isnt it??  Should you not EXPECT it to be absolutely 100% correct.

Anyway,, I got out of work early today and WENT RIGHT OVER and waited until they corrected the problem.. The had someone RUN to 5 different medical offices and two different hospitals to collect the CORRECT RECORDS for me while I waited. So I have them now.
