so i'm in the process of picking myself up by my bootstraps and figuring out where to take my life right now. as most all of y'all know, my job is being outsourced. (meaning: i will be unemployed as of november 12th.) most of y'all probably ALSO know that i'm newly single and am dealing with some financial issues due to my ex leaving me high and dry. (i'm currently in danger of having my utilities and phone shut off thanks to the debt that she left me in.)

but enough of all that sadness!!! i have a WONDERFUL opportunity to reinvent myself right now and i would like to do whatever it takes to turn myself into the person that i need to be to get the job that i want.

so what's that going to take? well, first off, i need new clothes. since i'm so tiny i usually have to shop in the children's department and well, you generally don't find business suits in the children's department so now what? idk... i've been looking in the salvation army, loaves and fishes and the help center and i can find pieces that would work for "office attire" but like i said, they're usually too big for me or else just not quite appropriate.

i do have LOTS of clothes in my closet already but... they really aren't erm... "fancy" enough i suppose. i mean yeah, it's fun to wear outfits like this:

but i just don't feel like it's appropriate to wear in an advertising agency. newspaper job ~ yeah... whatever. it really doesn't matter. BUT, to get the interest of the employers that i'm REALLY seeking out i need to look more like this:

so, since i'm working with limited funds right now i can't exactly go buy NEW stuff and have it altered to fit my tiny physique. any thoughts? suggestions? anything?

also, i'm going to need to do something about my hair. and i'm just really not quite sure what. i LOVE having long hair so i really don't want to do anything too drastic. honestly, i love bette's hair (the woman in those other pics for those of you not "in the know".) but i have trouble making mine do that. my hair is naturally straight with just enough "body" to be exasperatingly annoying! any thoughts or words of wisdom on that? (oh and, i also like the winona ryder "pixie" cut and feel like i *might* be able to pull it off now that i'm not quite so cow-ish but i'm having trouble imagining myself parting with my long hair right now. that's a bit drastic, kwim?)

I really do not know what to suggest.  But you are sexy, sexy, sexy and I wsh you the best.  You should cut your hair...it will grow back faster then you know.  I do wish you the best!  BTW, you have a great attitude about it all...don't change that...

lols, thank you, i'm blushing right now btw...

what would you suggest about the hair? (it's in bad need of AT THE VERY LEAST a good trim ) but i'm just not really sure about what style to look for since i wear glasses (that's most of the reason why i nixed the "winona" look.)

I (personally) think the pixie look is real cute.  I would not do anything spiked or like that...makes women look a bit butch...the first time I cut all my hair off, that is how I looked even with the amount of make-up I wear.  How about like a "choppy" pixie cut?  That is sexy...just depends on how conservative you are.  Well damn....I am not a certified in this so maybe an opinion of someone who is, is better, LOL.

BTW to any butch women out there...I think you guys are sexy too!! (My wife is a stud)...so no offense :-)

I think what you have is fine. But I suck at fashion and stuff. I would suggest tucking in the dress shirt tho. Other than that you look great! I think a pixie cut would be adorable on you. I think you have the perfect face even with the glasses.

i just kind of feel like my current outfits are idk... sort of a "look at me! look at me!" kinda thing, kwim? and i don't want that. i want to look professional and serious instead of playful.

Ad agencies and newspapers aren't the most formal work environments, but for an interview a rule of thumb is to look as professional as you reasonably can so they can see what you'd look like if they send you out to represent them somehwhere.  I'm a lawyer so I know from boring business clothes.   Both pictures look like you are aiming for a school-girl-sexy vibe, which is fine personally but not a professional work look.    I'd suggest pairing the sweater in the bottom picture with dark colored pants or a skirt that goes below your knees.    The top and tie in the first one is okay, if you can find a blazer that goes with it and a matching pair of pants.   After you get the job you can see how people dress in the office, I'd expect both of those types of places to be a lot more casual than what I'd interview in.

For hair, I got a flat-iron recently and my observation is that everyone thinks straight hair looks better - people who haven't said anything to me in 5 years tell me my hair looks good.   I need a pretty good quality one with a high heat setting and they can be expensive if you don't have one or know someone you can borrow one from.   You could just get it blow-dried for an interview by a hair professional.  If you do have access to a flat iron, they are easy to learn to use and take about 10 minutes most mornings.   I am a complete hair idiot and I have managed to figure it out.   Dye out the gray, get the bangs cut in a way that looks good straight and you are good to go.
