Nutritionist fees??

I have been battling with Blue Cross over my first visit to the nutritionist. I called before I went they said I had was covered for 10 visits with the nut. They are telling me now that it is not a covered service. I have been around around with them. I have a friend at work who had here wls in April, we have the same insurance, same surgeon and the same nut. They covered all of hers ,and nothing on mine. They should be covering 100% of my medical bills at this point. The visit for my 50 minutes with the nut was $185.00 , which I feel is pretty high, does that sound like a normal fee?

If Any one has any advice as to getting them to cover this I would be very grateful.

? Written appeal?
? Call the state insurance commissioner's office?

I'm seeing a nutritionist Monday.   I forgot to ask what her fees are but I'll let you know.

Did you get a chance to see what diagnosis code and service code your co-worker's claim used?   Were they the same?

I hate insurance companies.  It's one thing to be dollar driven and heartless.  It is just too much to also be so completely inconsistent and incompetent all the time.  I really want to make a career change and spend my life suing them.

My insurance doesn't cover anything i need; so I don't even try to get them to anymore.  My nutrition eval was $120.  She spent about 1.5hrs with me.  She was ok, but frankly, I have learned a lot more on this board.

And lets be honest, most of us here could give a nutrition class ourselves by the time we get to this point.

i think i paid $300 for my first nut visit but i was made aware of that fee well in advance (and subsequent visits have been $30 for the nut portion and $50 for the inbody testing so, $80 each time i see him now which is about every 6 months.)

The nutritionist I saw today charges $100 / hr or $50 for a half hour.   No initial intake session fee, just the regular.   That is paying independently, not through insurance or associated with a surgical program.  I would guess they would charge more for either of those situations.

Thanks for the info, I go back tomorrow so hopefully they will re-bill my first visit with a different code.  I paid a $100 program fee the first visit plus the 185 for my 50 minute visit.
