so here's the deal. i just got called back for my meeting and yuppers, i got the axe. but it's cool, it's all good. (that's what i'm telling myself right now anyway.)

i have a job for the next 45 days and then i have to turn in my id badge and never look back. i will have insurance through the end of november, a 10 week severance package and then unemployment and cobra insurance.

So sorry to hear. Sometimes these changes look bad now but have a silver lining. 20 years ago my job was eliminated and I took a new position that led me to traveling. I met my partner Brett while working out of town and 19 years later we are still together. Keep a good attitude and look at this as an opportunity to focus your work life to what you really want to do. -- tom

Good luck during these changes. This could be a good thing but on the surface it's the last thing you need.

Hey, Amanda.  When I got laid off from my job of 8 years back in '04, I went back to school and I am set to graduate in May.  Best thing that ever happened to me.  Though I didn't know it at the time.

Good luck.

Wow, that's rough. I'm so sorry, but as others have said, when something like this happens, there's a window opening somewhere with a better opportunity.

You don't, by chance, work for a certain lending institution that was in the news all day yesterday, do you?

Good luck and keep that chin up! Just think - job interviews will be easier now that you're a healthier and fitter you!

My partner is going through the same thing. Her company gotten gobbled up and now her position is a dublicate. She has a job till January 31st. Which is great because it gets us through the holidays BUT also a hinderance because now she is going to stress for the next 4 months.

But I am hopeful, she does IT and we live in Silicon Valley. We really couldn't ask for more.

My prayers will be with you for a speedy new job offer!
I have found a new way of life that has kept me at Goal since 2008.. And keeping it that way!

oh yeah, your partner's "set", you're all good.

generally speaking though, in the area that i'm in... there aren't many "graphic artist" positions which royally stinks when something like this happens. (usually you have to wait until someone dies or retires in order to GET a job and then pretty much hang on for dear life and hope nothing like this happens between now and retirement

but this is for the best. i can SEE that this is for the best. i have gotten very complacent in my job and very... UNcreative and UNproductive and just generally pretty jaded all the way around. so it's time to shake things up a bit. and i know that the people who are left in my department are going to be taken advantage of in the coming months/years and they'll probably end up just quitting anyway. (and if they just *quit* then they won't get a severance package.)

so pretty much, they're PAYING ME to leave i mean really, what more could i ask for?? (besides another opportunity waiting on the horizon??) but i'm really confused and i honestly just don't know which end is up anymore (as you can tell from my most recent external blog post...)
