My God people are asses!!! Beware, slight rant....

So we've all experienced the stigma around WLS, in particular bypass. Today I had two different people make comments like "I'm going to be watching you like a hawk after this surgery to make sure you don't eat anything you're not supposed to." and "why don't you just work with a personal trainer and get a diet plan?"

Most people that know me, know me to be very direct and set very clear boundaries...so today, I had to rip some serious ass. I will not tolerate ignorance and people putting their weird crap or issues on me. And if I hear about Carnie Wilson or Al Roker gaining weight back one more time, I'm going to lose it. That is all most people know of this surgery, a musician and a tv weather guy. For the love of God!

I don't expect people to be as knowledgeable as i am about this surgery. I have to be that knowledgeable as it's happening to me. But I do expect people to behave themselves in a manor that isn't assuming that I've made some rash decision or that someone they know had a bad experience therefore I should scrap everything. They have no clue about the thousands upon thousands of people that have had successful outcomes and keep their weight off for years and years.

Ok, I'm going to take a breath now and go to bed. Good night everyone! LOL

LOL - I love your subject line.   I want it on a t-shirt.

I have found that most doctors are ignorant about both obesity and weight loss surgery, so your average person is even worse.    I don't expect average people to know as much as I do about obesity and losing weight (I did not have surgery but still experience similar idiocy) but come on people - read a Yahoo headline once in a while.

Anyway, you made me laugh and I hope it helped you blow off steam and ignore those people.

cheers,  Alison

Rant on, my friend!! I know exactly how you feel.  Been getting a bit of that from a few of my cronies too.  I'm a little lucky tho that a lot of my coworkers know how hard I've worked on my weight, so not getting much flack on that end.  However, half my family is Puerto Rican, and they have lots to say.  There are whole chunks of the family that I'm not even telling until the surgery is over.

What I love the most is when they say to you "have you considered trying something less drastic?"  NOOOOO, that never, ever even occured to me to try something as simple as diet and exercise!! How novel!! THANK GOD you were here to show me the way!  AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!!

Rant on , Baby! My mother in law, who weighs @ least 300 lbs. said to me, "Why, I don't know what you'd want to have that surgery for. I'd just diet and the lose weight." Ummmm...yeah, right!

Sweetie, I have heard it all too. If it was as easy as just dieting and exercise, than why is most of America Obese????? And what really gets my panties in a bunch is that most of the people telling us to just diet, or this surgery is an easy way out..are OBESE themselves. Give me a ******g break people. They are uneducated and jealous. That's my opinion... They have no idea what we go through before surgery, and all the sacrifices we all have to make to get ourselves healthy. And for a lot of us, this surgery saves our lives.... These narrow minded fools get me all pissed off... sorry!

I am sorry you are going through this.... just want to let you know that there will be people who will try to sabotage your WL.  Plus they will give you grief about loosing too much weight.  I get it all the time and it drives me insane.  And I am 3 years out!  Plus the people who put the homemade cookies on my desk or try to force me to eat a piece of birthday cake because "one piece will not hurt me"!!!  I just walk away!!!  With the hurricane and eating nothing but crap due to no power - OMG it has been tough!!!  The office, God love them, have been buying lunch for everyone in our company, just so everyone can have a hot meal - but it is food like lasagna or pizza and cakes, cookies, donuts.... I had to bring in 6 dz donuts and kolaches this morning... ya know what that is like for a food addict?  LOL!!!

Just hang in there and do what I do - smile and walk away.  I never say anything, just walk away.  If they are semi decent people, they will think that either they have offend you, which will make them feel bad or they will ask you later more details about WLS and be your cheerleader instead of your sabotager!!!

Ugh... I hear ya!  But what I find is it is mostly skinny people. When I hear "Oh my God you look fantastic what have you done!" I say work out eat high protein and it was all made possible by RNY.  Their faces fall and I get this blank stare... Because they CAN NOT comprehend being born with out a metabolism..

Just keep on keepin on, hang your head high and KNOW how fantastic you will feel..
I have found a new way of life that has kept me at Goal since 2008.. And keeping it that way!
