The excess skin issues
Ok so I watched Big Medicine for the first time this weekend and now I'm totally paranoid.
I asked my doctor and she said that the skin issue wouldnt be a problem for me because I was still young and I was a male... but I want personal thoughts.
I have about 225 lbs to loose... Will I really have issues with my skin?
I saw all those people on Big Medicine who had to have crazy amounts of skin removed (one lady had 30 lbs removed)
Is this always the case?

Youth is in your favor when it comes to minimizing excess skin after significant weight loss, but if you've got 225 lbs. to lose, there's only so far even young skin can be stretched and snap back intact.
I've been roughly 125-175 pounds above a normal BMI for approx 20 years (with rare and brief dips into being simply "obese") and now that I've lost 115 pounds (with 60-65 to go), I'm looking pretty "sharp", as in "Shar-Pei"!! I'm sure it would be less pronounced if I were younger, but I haven't started to "hate" the saggy skin just yet; I figure the worse it looks, the more progress I'm making towards a goal. Luckily, the amount of skin I have hasn't introduced any medical or physical problems (rashes, difficulty walking); it's just cosmetic.

Well... I am 26, and lost 165 lbs. via diet and exercise in 15 months.. and, well, I have gotten a lower body lift, arm lift, and breast lift... So that should tell you something :)
Save your pennies now in case you decide you want the surgery after being at goal for 6 months or more.

Hi Tony!
I'm 37 years old and have been big all my life. For the last 5 years, I was 500 pounds. After losing 152 so far, I am sagging a lot. However I'm not able to exercise as much as they want me to because of the arthritis I'm dealing with right now (can we say knee replacement?). So right now I am sagging a lot but from it being stretched so far for so long, it's to be expected.

Hi Tony, It's nice to see you here as well..
My doc told me that because of my age and the fact that I only weigh 307(he actually said..only 307.), I should have minimal amounts of loose skin. He said to exercise after surgery cause it can really help get the skin back where it belongs... You and I are only a week apart on our supervised dieting..Good luck to you!
