Even now if I eat to fast I get sick. What I do is rest between bites. It's also bad but I try to do something else while I eat but when I do take a bite I do pay attention to how it tastes and everything. I just do stuff between bites. Like play here. Hope this helps.

Eating slow is a tough one, that's for sure. An old Weigh****chers trick is to put your fork down in between bites. As silly as it sounds, it does help. I do that with everything I eat. It makes you more aware of what you are doing and gives you the second or two it takes to remind yourself to slow down. For soft foods, have you tried: Cottage cheese Ricotta cheese with marinara Refried beans Pureed chili Change up your protein shake. One thing that definitely kept it from getting boring was trying different proteins. I got samples at bariatriceating.com or vitalady.com. I looked forward to trying new things and I found a few favorites in the mix. Rachelle

I'm almost 3 months out and I can tell you that even the other day I had my lunch too quickly and up it came! just make sure the chew thoroughly (this is what I have problems with) and take your time. My nut tell me that you should eat your meal in 15 minutes.....well sometimes I get it down in 5 and that's what I get sick.......take smaller bites and wait for it to hit your pouch and process a little before taking another bit. You'll know when it hits the pouch

Rachelle's fork trick is a good one. I work in mental health and we use the same thing with some of my clients. Specifically ones who spent a lot of time institutionalized and developed quick eating habits. It does take a while to get used to, though. I've heard that some post-ops use kid sized utensils for a while too. Put some protein powder in pudding or mashed potatoes. Try mashed sweet potatoes, but not the instant kinds...yuck! I also liked a small tub of cottage cheese mixed w/ a pkg. of SF strawberry jello and a tub of SF cool whip. I still like this, but now I can add frozen sliced strawberries to it...yummy!

Take about a half cup of ricotta cheese (maybe a little less), mix with one beaten egg, salt, pepper, garlic powder. Put it in a little dish and bake it until it's set and top with a couple of tsp of low sugar spaghetti sauce. Tastes kind of like the inside of a ravioli. This goes together pretty quick and should be tolerated ok. If putting the fork down doesn't do it, divide your meal and leave half of it in the kitchen, so you have to get up and get it. The fork trick does work well, though. Good luck!!
