lions and tigers and BEARS Oh My!
ok so I just found out about GLBT forum a few minutes ago (thank you fuzzy)
This is great! (sorry about the title... I figured Hello was too generic)
About me:
Did my WLS Seminar 2 weeks ago and I have my first of 6 montly weight loss appts with my physician on the 29th. I'm hoping for a Jan/Feb surgery date (with hopes of doing the RNY)
I'm 32m, 6'9" and just found out after 8 years of not having a scale big enough that I'm 457 lbs. I think Id have fallen into a deep depression if it wasn't for the fact that I'm going to have the surgery.
I'm a gemini (hence the babbling) so expect to see a plethora of posts from me
I have to do something to keep me on track for the next 6 months!
I look forward to getting to know all of you and welcome the new friendships and support on my new journey.
eventually I'll get the courage to post a picture and start blogging...
You tall guys burn my butt. You're practically a lightweight with a BMI of only 49!!!
Seriously, you are going to be SHOCKED at how quickly you lose weight after the surgery. From everything I've read here over the past 8-9 months, it's the guys around 6' and taller, who weigh 300+ pounds who seem to respond the fastest to surgery; many of them lose 150 or more in 6 months, which astonishes me. I'm only 5'3", so I didn't have to weigh as much to be SMO, and my weight loss hasn't been quite as spectacular as the big boyz, though I'm perfectly satisfied with it. (I suspect that as a percentage of excess body weight, people lose weight proportionately, but it's still impressive when you're tossing around large numbers!)

> i've lost 73 pounds since May 8th and I really wi**** would go faster!
Let me put this into some perspective for you. I was 315# when I started out, and lost 25# before surgery. Since surgery I've lost 75#, and I'm 7.5 months out! When I hear that someone has lost as much as I have in only 2.5 months (!!!), I don't know whether to feel good for them, or crawl off and have my own pity party! Maybe a bit of both!
But I know that I really have been doing everything right (exercise, eating, etc.), and there's probably little I could have improved upon, so I'm just glad that I'm still losing steadily and I haven't yet had that sudden reawakening of hunger. As everyone else has said, you are to be congratulated; it must be a great shot in the arm.

well everyone is different......i just wanna lose as much as I can as fast as i can because my doc is a bit of a perfectionist and will just ream you if you don't make certain benchmarks LOL I don't wanna give him a reason to yell at me LOL I think you and I both are still in the honeymoon period so keep on keeping of.....you look awesome
Welcome Tony!
Another Gemini here, and one with ADHD to boot! Talk about babbling and rambling -- it seems my train of thought sometimes is permanently derailed! It looks like we are on the same time table. My info. seminar is on 7/31, and I am hoping to have my surgery right after the Holidays. I meet with the surgeon on 9/23.
If you're looking for support, you will most definitely find it here. Visit often, and don't worry about the rambling, we'll sort it out.
