Have a fun and safe July 4th weekend ! It's one of my busiest weekends of the season and I'll be working lots of hours, but I usually close early to see the annual fireworks display from the beach. What do people have planned? Do holidays present any food challenges for you?

No food challenges here, 'cuz I'll be working a 12 hour shift at the hospital. Enjoy the show. Sharyn nurse2b

Tomorrow we are going to the "block party" two doors down and the we are having a party on Saturday. I made some of Eggface's bites so I have something to eat. I married into Italians so there is always food issues on the holidays. Luckily the 4th isn't bad since no pasta, 15 course meals, and rich as all get out desserts. Honestly, you can gain weight just be walking by them. The dang calories jump onto you.

Tell me about it! I am of Italian descent and I have a large extended family of terrific cooks. Holidays are/were wonderful events -- but also "non-stop feeds!" Since I love to cook, I'm actually looking forward to preparing some creative (and tasty) meals for life after RNY. Have a great time at the parties you are going to! Oh, BTW, who is "Egg Face?"

Eggface is one of the people on here that has "food porn". You can find her on the main board or on my friends list. I don't use vegitarian sausage but I have heard Morningstar Farms has the best.

happy 4th to you too Joanne! this is my first holiday post-op and I started solid food yesterday so I'm still testing the waters. right now I'm just having a nice breakfast of a vegetarian sausage patty and some egg beaters scrambled eggs. I'm not quite brave enough to have a full on hot dog or anything like that just yet. besides I have so much mushy food still in the house, might as well use it all up before I go grocery shopping again LOL

Congratulations, Aaron on graduating to solid foods. It's funny to talk about having the courage to eat an entire hot dog -- something only post-ops understand! Cynthia and I have yet to find a vegetarian breakfast sausage that we like. What brand do you use?

Joanne, I used morningstar farms breakfast meats. now I have only tried the sausage links so far and they seem to go down pretty well and I find that they are quite tasty. I have their sausage patties and I'm going to attempt to have them today. I also have their vegetarian chicken tenders and I tried one last week and it didn't work out so well. I also have their bacon which i haven't tried yet but anxious to see what it's like.

Happy fourth my friends and "family"! We are having our local "family" over to dinner tonight. Kay made a raspberry pie that we had at an IL WLS surgery picnic. It is lovely and no one would ever think it is low fat, sugar free, etc. Of course it is the kind of thing to share so we don't have it for days. Then we will watch the fireworks from next door. We won't be able to see the ground stuff, but we won't have crowds either! I went to my favorite yarn shop this morning for a sale and I plan to sit outside and knit after I get off line. Have a great day! Connie
