You know, I haven't had any diet soda since shortly before my surgery date, too, but my SO still drinks it (I used to think he drank it only because I did!) I was addicted to Diet Pepsi beforehand; now, I'm shocked to find out that I don't really miss it, even with it being in the house. Plus, it's hard enough to drink ANYTHING -- at least not rapidly -- post-op; why make it doubly difficult with the carbonation? I'm even more surprised that I haven't gone back to it because I think that the "no diet sodas" bit is a complete crock. Usually, when I disbelieve something, I usually make a point of ignoring the rule! Which is what I did with coffee: I skipped coffee for the first 3 months post-op, and then decided to have a cup (NOT decaffeinated) in the AM. If I had more than 1 cup (OK, a mug) in the morning, it would be coming out of my ears, I'd be so full! Sometimes I think think some of the rules we're given (like "no diet sodas" -- NOT all -- most of them make sense!) serve a function only in that they are "objective correlatives" of post-op WLS success. In other words, if you have enough discipline to follow this rule, you probably have as much discipline to follow the important ones, too! /Steve

I stick to most of the rules, but after a few months, I think we all have to figure out which ones really apply. The no coffee rule was the first one I ditched.

Fat-laden meats. Polish sausage, roast pork butt, grilled beef ribs.

I am only 10 weeks out, but the thing I miss the most? #1: Grapefruit, the ruby red ones. I used to peel them like an orange and have one every night. #2: Cape Cod potato chips. #3: Lately I'm getting cravings for Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Popeye's has plain chicken strips without breading that are cooked on the grill, but not fried in oil. They are pretty decent and I don't even like white meat of chicken. The beans there are OK for us too. Connie

Rice is hard. Some types of noodles as well. Everything else I can tolerate small amounts of.

We used to go to this GREAT Asian (Chines, Korean, and Japanese) buffet. At 15 bucks a head its just not worth it!!! Ice cream ~ Ben 'n Jerry's Coffee Heath Bar Janet's homemade mac 'n cheese Steak ~ cannot tolerate beef anymore BUT, it's all good, 'cuz I'm HEALTHY now!!! Sharyn nurse2b
