Let's start up the QOTD again!
Hi everyone. Why don't I start up the Question of the Day again. Maybe that will keep us posting more often. Let's see......let's start with an easy peasy one.
What was the final straw that made you decide to have WLS?
At the age of 42 I had a heart attack. Even though I had researched WLS and even gone to the surgeon's seminar, this was the moment that I knew I had to do it no matter what. This was also the moment that I think got my wife on board with me having surgery.
This month on 5/29 it will be 2 years since my heart attack.

Wow! I didn't know that about you, Rachelle. My boss & her girlfriend had Open RNY in '04. I saw their success first hand. Then I started wondering about it for myself. Over the years the scale had kept going up - up - up. Not that I was ever small, but at 259, I was MISERABLE!! I checked into it and talked it over with a friend. Actually talked her into it having it with me. We had our Lap RNY 2 days apart. One of the best gifts I could've ever given myslef. ~Ape
> What was the final straw that made you decide to have WLS?
Developing osteoarthritis in my rt. hip 11/06. It was out-of-the-blue from my point of view, but apparently, I'd been walking on no cartilage/cushioning for a couple of years by then. I have no idea why it didn't bother me earlier. I wish I could say that RNY and weight loss made the pain go away, but it was too late to have much of a salutary effect (and post-op, no NSAIDs! Arrggggghhhh!) Anyway, I'm having my hip replaced in July, an event that has me excited and terrified (sounds familar, eh?) Right now, I'm lurching around on a cane looking like "House".
