Hi everyone. Why don't I start up the Question of the Day again. Maybe that will keep us posting more often. Let's see......let's start with an easy peasy one. What was the final straw that made you decide to have WLS? At the age of 42 I had a heart attack. Even though I had researched WLS and even gone to the surgeon's seminar, this was the moment that I knew I had to do it no matter what. This was also the moment that I think got my wife on board with me having surgery. This month on 5/29 it will be 2 years since my heart attack. Rachelle

Wow! I didn't know that about you, Rachelle. My boss & her girlfriend had Open RNY in '04. I saw their success first hand. Then I started wondering about it for myself. Over the years the scale had kept going up - up - up. Not that I was ever small, but at 259, I was MISERABLE!! I checked into it and talked it over with a friend. Actually talked her into it having it with me. We had our Lap RNY 2 days apart. One of the best gifts I could've ever given myslef. ~Ape

Nothing better than being inspired by someone who has been though it. I too am inspired by those that had surgery before me and were successful. Rachelle

The sudden death of my grandparents showed me that life is to short live miserably....

I'm sorry that you lost your grandparents. Sometimes such a tragic loss leads us down a different and better path for ourselves.

A couple years ago my (then) gynecologist told me if I continued to gain, I wouldn't be able to walk by the time I was 30.

Now that's a scary thought. In my 20s and 30s, I thought I was invincible even though I was obese. When I hit my 40s, everything changed...arthritis, heart disease, etc. Sometimes it takes a big health scare to get us pointed in the right direction.

> What was the final straw that made you decide to have WLS? Developing osteoarthritis in my rt. hip 11/06. It was out-of-the-blue from my point of view, but apparently, I'd been walking on no cartilage/cushioning for a couple of years by then. I have no idea why it didn't bother me earlier. I wish I could say that RNY and weight loss made the pain go away, but it was too late to have much of a salutary effect (and post-op, no NSAIDs! Arrggggghhhh!) Anyway, I'm having my hip replaced in July, an event that has me excited and terrified (sounds familar, eh?) Right now, I'm lurching around on a cane looking like "House". /Steve

Ouch Steve! I can certainly relate. I'm looking at knee replacement down the road. My left knee is bone on bone. Keep us posted on that hip surgery.

Watching my mom with her problems with her knees and ankles. Jus****ching her move around in general. I am only 30, I should not be out of breath walking up stairs!
