Ya know I could handle all the crap about the fact he was raised Muslim. He has converted to Chritianity and did so many years ago. That was the only thing that was really dug up. However; I am really not feeling this. He says he doesn't condone the comments but he gave the money too him. Yeah, I voted for Hillary, now I really hope she can make it in.
I think this whole tempest-in-a-teapot is moronic. It's red meat dug up by the Clinton campaign in order to stir up trouble among the general electorate, because the two candidates' positions are otherwise so similar as to be indistinguishable. And let's face it, how interesting is it to argue over mandates for universal health coverage for the next six weeks? However, for better or worse, the ball is now in Obama's court to finesse this matter in a public response and put it behind his campaign, while alienating as few voting blocks as possible. Campaigning has always been bare fisted, and this is simply the latest volley.
It was clear a year ago that Obama was uncomfortable with his former pastor's occasional rhetoric when he distanced himself by not having Wright appear at his campaign announcement. What strikes me is how calculated these clips are to inflame white voters, most of whom might not be all-that-racist (well, I'd like to think so), but who aren't at all familiar with the rhetoric and rhythms of preaching in a black church. I'm not defending Wright, but when I hear what he says in the context of a revivalist, self-empowerment sermon in a black church, it's a whole lot less offensive to me than similar sentiments, reversed, might be to me, if I heard them coming from a KKK member. (Though in both cases, I'd write off both of them as fringy crackpots.)
Ask yourself:
1.) Is this typical of Wright's preaching, day in and day out?
and
2.) If not, how responsible is Obama for a selective video-bite of one of his pastor's sermons?
