Hey folks, I have not updated in a while so i figured it was time. I did my first visit to the Surgeons office last week. I got to meet the shrink and found out that i not crazy..Dam did fool him good.. Then meet with all the other people, and yes it took every minute of 4hrs. Everything is a go so far, as long as i finish my diet with my Dr. I have 3 months left woo hoo.. They are telling me that i should have my RNY sometime in July or August...

That's great news! It's such a relief when you finally get a target time frame in sight, isn't it? Z

Another one of us slipped passed the shrink. We are going to take over the world. I agree with April. It's easy to fool them. Waiting is the hardest so good luck and see you on the loser's bench this summer!

That's great news Scott -- the way I waited was to keep working out -- made it easier. I know I'm a nut July/August will be here before you know it. Congratulations

I think it's really interesting how different people's experience of their psych eval is. My best friend is trying to get lapband and had to do two different appointments and take formal written psych testing. My own experience was a 45 minute conversation with the psychologist in his office where he asked me questions. The questions he asked made a lot of sense like "Who do you have to support you post op", and "Do you have anyone in your life who you think will try to sabotage you and how will you handle this?" Also a lot about how I use my food (emotional eating). I think the practice I went to has a focus of getting people qualified, and help them to make changes so they will be successful where my friend Linda's practice almost seems like their focus is to weed people out so they don't have to waste time with people who might not be successful. The bottom line is that the testing is only as good as the person conducting the testing, so don't let that testing worry you too much, other than to qualify for the surgery.

Shirley, You are right the testing was only as good as the person who was doing the testing. I had a 45 min talk with him asking what i have done to pre-pare for the surgery, and what kind of support i have now and after th surgery.. When i told him i was already going to the support meetings and have been chatting with a few folks from on here , he did tell me that i had done my homework and had a good head on my shoulders.. The one thing i did tell him that this a my 2nd chance for a whole new healthy life.. And i could not wait for it to happen.. Then i did have a paper test the same day with some 400 questions on it, asking the same ten questions in different ways... Glad it went well for you..

I've seen people get so afraid before the psych eval. It's amazing. My best friend put hers off for two months before doing it for this reason. Glad yours was a positive experience.
