I'M BANDED!!!!
It's done! Got banded yesterday by Dr. Kurian at NYU. Surgery took about 90 minutes - she also put in a stitch to close up some kind of potential hernia?? Not sure. Anyway, am drinking lots of liquids with no problems (band is largest kind and won't be filled for six weeks) and am peeing like a racehorse. Woke up from surgery with terrible back and shoulder pain, but now only pain is in my stomach, very painful pressure. Am trying to walk around the hotel as much as I can with my parents. Loved ones are calling, friends are coming by hotel, one sent flowers from the UK. I feel this was the best decision in the world....AND I weighed in at 279 yesterday!!! 13 pounds lost on the liquid diet!!!
Very excited to be in the game now and on the losers' team!!!
I'm sure tons more posts will come up (mainly - I haven't pooped in two days, should I take Milk of Magnesium or let it be?)!!!
Abby
Congratulations and welcome to a whole new life.
As far as MOM is concerned, if your doc says its ok, and you're uncomfortable, take some. I use Miralax myself, because MOM tastes like....well, it tastes bad, let's leave it at that, but if it's what you have, go for it. Let us know how you're doing.
BTW, as far as the back and should pain, that's probably from the gas they used to inflate your belly. Walking is the very best way to work that out of your body.
CONGRATS and welcome to the bench.
As far as bowel movements go -- I wouldn't worry about it so much because you are on a liquid diet. I had RNY and it was a week or so before I had my first bowel movement. As long as I was drinking the liquids; I didn't worry about it so much.
But it's always good to check with your surgeon to see what she says. I could all be a matter of time. Now I urinate and have a bowel movement at the same time -- is that crazy or what. I mentioned it to him on my visit last month and he wasn't too concerned -- means that nothing is stopped up and my digestive system.
So keep walking and keep drinking.
Congratulations Abby!! I had my surgery at NYU also...with Dr. Ren. I did meet Dr. Kurian while I was there and liked her very much.
Way to go on losing 13 lbs. You should be excited...you have so much great stuff ahead of you. I can't believe it's been 6 months already since my surgery.
If you don't have anything in your system, there won't be anything to poop out. In the beginning, I was pooping a couple times a week. It was more frequent after I started adding food. If you're uncomfortable and feel you need to go, the MOM won't hurt you.
