Congrats! We are working on marriage here in Maryland-- even though the Supreme Court ruling was against us; but there is still the opportunity and chance to get it passed through the General Assembly.

Marriage would be the best, but there is already a "one man, one woman" (at one time) law in place here. But someday it will happen. This will start with giving us some rights- like hospital visitation... ( in time for my RNY). Good luck on the marriage ruling! deb366

Maryland cleared that hospital visitation stuff up in 2006 I believe. Unfortunately, there was a couple visiting the state from California and one became ill and died. The hospital would not allow the partner in the hospital room. The General Assembly passed the: Health Care Facility Visitation and Medical Decisions This bill allows "domestic partners" to visit one another in the hospital, share a room in a nursing home, make funeral decisions for each other, among other rights. When I had my surgery we didn't have a problem. I think we should start an End Divorce campaign because divorce causes mental and emotional damage to children and because they decided to marry they should therefore stay together and work it out. Just Kidding -- but imagine the uproar from the heterosexuals.

We went in this morning and made it legal! We got a certificate- just like a marriage license except it says Domestic Partnership, now the hospital visitation issue won't be as much of an issue but I really want to do the advanced directive or living will before my surgery too. That piece is coming along too- just the insurance part now but I am not expecting a problem. We were the first ones there in our county, but we let our friends go before us....anyway, it was very cool and everyone was very accepting and nice to us. The tatoo is a celtic design- my DP and I have matching ones...I have blue eyes and love the ocean (hence the blue) she has green eyes and loves the mountains, and the purple represents several different things that are important to us...And yes, April it hurt! I have heard that is one of the most painful places to get one..... Woo Hoo, we are legal now!!
