VSG on 04/06/12
there is only 1 other VSG'er *****gularly posts on this board....I would suggest going to the VSG forum.......If we cannot help........It could be that it has a high sugar content...this is causing a spike in your blood sugar....the fest drop in blood sugar can make yyou very hungry......
Welcome to the board!! I don't know much about the VSG but if it's like most of the other surgeries then I think what you need to do is get off the liquids, if your doctor has allowed it. Liquids pass right through the newly formed stomach so you get no restriction. So if you can, try eating solid foods and keep the shakes as snacks, and follow the rule of protein then veggies then carbs! Hope that helps!! If you can't do solids yet then I guess you are going to have to go on will power alone until you can.
Well, i am actually 4 months out and have been on solids for a couple of months now, and i was trying the shakes just to supplement as i am not getting quite as puch protein as i would like...
as for the VSG, the surgery that i had is actually a bit different, but it is easier to say that it is the VSG than to go through all the big crazy explanation of my exact surgery... but here is the short story...
My surgeon has created a weight loss procedure that he has perfected after 30 years of doing these types of surgeries. It combines the most effective parts of the different options into one procedure and he also removes the ommentum during the operation.
at 4 months out I am down 80 lbs and 6 sizes with very few side effects... although i did end up with a nasty case of MRSA from the hospital post-op. I do not get dumping syndrome, and aside from not being able to eat dairy and bread any more i can pretty much eat anything.
anyhoo...thank you for the warm welcome Kenny

Welcome Lori! When I tried slim fast it was too full of sugar for my taste. I would suggest sugar free Instant Breakfast or one of the whey proteins you have to order online like unjury (unjury.com). I can eat sugar but when I do I am starving the rest of the day. I'm thinking that might be happening to you.
I'm glad you found this board!

Hi Lori, welcome!
I don't like to do the sweet protein shakes, because they tend to be so thick and sweet that it's a little overwhelming to my senses which have become used to different kinds of foods. I think that can lead to hunger later. I prefer the fruit-flavored zero-carb Isopure RTD. They're a little sweet, but not excessively so and they're thin and easy to drink. It just feels like it fits in with the other stuff I'm consuming better than the shakes, if that makes sense.

Hey Lori...
Sound like a good old fashion carb rebound....(get out your old Carb Addactis Diet Book)
If I do sweet first thing in the morning....it's all over with...I stay in the fridge
