WELL....I started back on working 16 hour shifts on Friday. I got cleared 2 weeks early due to problems with staffing at work.I had to run to my surgeon and then to occupational health to get cleared....I am now becoming aware about how insanely stressful my job is....I work as a child psychiatric nurse. Friday night was one of the worst nights I have had at work in about a year. I was in charge and we recieved a 17 year old psychotic male....who was 6'4" and 240lbs. He was so psychotic he was babbling......I NEEDED to keep my staff and patients safe. I have one coping skill in those situations FOOD I starting munching on a bagel. It was miserable....scary and and stressful. Then on Sunday I went back for another 16 hour shift.....I do not care for the nurse who was in charge. She made a decision which I truely felt put me in danger...I lost it and actually got mad at work...and yelled at her.(I AM A REAL LAID BACK GUY THIS WAS NOT NORMAL)...The situation deteriorated due to this boy who was now getting agitated. He had already pushed through me and came very close to falling onto me......My boss came in....we had a "HUDDLE" to decide what to do....I started eating chocolate munchkins during this meeting....the child was transferred.....after a long stressful period....All I wanted to was EAT.. So today I am depressed and fighting not to eat...depressed...(which is a problem anyway...) HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THIS ?????? THANKS SEAN (sorry so long)

honestly, this isn't meant as a suggestion - just a response to your question... i smoke. i didn't smoke for 3 years pre-op and only started about 3 months post-op and NOW I CAN'T STOP AGAIN!!!! but what i suggested to my gf when she was dieting and wanted to do something else besides eat and smoke was to drink water. i told her to carry a water bottle with her everywhere and whenever somebody pissed her off, take a swig! whenever she wanted a doughnut, take a swig! whenever she was bored, take a swig! BUT, she hasn't had rny or any other form of wls so her diets only last about a day or two, lol!!!

Hey Sean. I don't have any wisdom to share, unfortunately. I'm dreading the day that I have to deal like that. It will happen, I am sure of it. I just wanted to give you a big ((((((((((HUG))))))))) for support and send you some good, strong, supportive vibes. Rachelle

"i guess i'm a little orally fixated" And thats a bad thing how???? LOL. Perhaps it's time to find a new job or a new coping mechanism. It's defintely not a good idea so early out to eat around your surgery....it kind of defeats the purpose of going under the knife.

That is so sweet of you to send a hug!! We're all family and should hug more often. By the way, have you received your candles?

During my early days out, I made little rules for myself. It was easier to stick with them at first because I couldn't eat much at a time anyway and just wasn't as hungry. Then I got into the groove of it and just kept doing it. For the first 3 months--no more than 1/2 cup of food at a time (measure it) and no eating any more often than every three hours. Protein first at every meal. After three months I began gradually eating larger amounts. 100 oz of water or other non-calorie, non-carbonated fluids every day. For the first year--protein foods and veggies only, no carby foods. Beginning pre-op and still ongoing at four years--exercise 5 days a week, including at least 30 minutes of cardio on at least 3 days with a shorter period of cardio plus strength-building and flexibility exercises on the other 2 days. That adds up to about 3 1/2 hours a week--most people can fit that in. Doing these things helped me lose 170 pounds in 13 months. Now, having said all that--your job seems very stressful. Maybe look around for one that would be a better fit? I know I am much happier now in the office job than I ever was at the hospital.
