Who's proud? - ME!!!!! And a lesson learned too!!
Okay, this might seem a little silly - but I finally decided to boost my workouts and got back to the gym 10 days ago. Up until now I had been walking every day but wanted to start doing more. I decided I'd start by swimming again - just to help these old arthritic joints and muscles get used to working a bit harder again. Plus the walk to/from the gym adds another 1.5 miles to my daily walking.
So, here's the proud part:
The first day I got back in the pool I swam a total of 600 meters - 3 legs of 200 meters each with about a 5-10 minute rest between each set. Today, I swam 600 meters in the first leg - without resting at all!!!! Then I took a 5 minute rest and did ANOTHER 600 meters!! Woo hoo!!! That's about 3/4 of a mile!! So, despite the fact that I weighed in UP one pound this week, my belt notch dropped a hole and, obviously, my fitness is improving!!
Lesson learned: Progress is made in so many measurable ways other than just what the scale says.
Thanks Shelley - I go to a Y that has a lot of older folks, a lot of gay guys but definitely not the "posers" - real down to earth guys of all shapes and sizes so I feel pretty comfortable in my bathing suit there. The worst is my "moobs" (man boobs) but they're never gonna shrink if I don't work at it. LOL.
