QOTD 10/11
So I know Purple Passion usually posts these, but I have become an addict now and haven't seen one in a couple days... So I decided to fill in without being asked, lol...
So here is today's question:
What is the one thing that has changed in your life since having WLS (or if you are waiting on the surgery, what is the one thing in your life you hope will change) that has meant the most to you?
***
For me the one thing is spending time with my nephews. Before the surgery @ 375lbs (even @ 336 right before surgery) I was always so miserable. If I played with them for any length of time I got tired. I wanted to go to soccer games but I was too heavy for all the folding chairs at Wal-Mart, too heavy to stand for an hour without being in major pain, and too heavy to sit on the ground on a blanket because my feet would fall asleep due to my poor circulation.
I could list 100 things here like all my health problems are gone, or shopping for clothes in normal sizes, etc... but the one thing that really means the most to me is that I really enjoy the time with my nephews now. I enjoy the soccer games, I enjoy running, and jumping on the trampoline, I enjoy riding bikes, and hiking. I enjoy my life so I am able to enjoy them!
So many things have changed since I had my surgery. I guess the thing that has changed the most for me is my attitude. I now see that I will be able to have a life worth living. I look forward to doing things. Before surgery I kind of prefered to not do anything because I just felt like I could not do anything and it was a struggle to do things. It is nice to want to plan new things and to see a light shining for me to succeed.
Cam, thanks for stepping up to the plate. I, too, have become addicted to the QOTD!!

My partner & I both had WLS for our daughter. We were both in our mid-30's when she was born and our health was deterioating FAST!! We wanted 2 things from the surgery. One was improved health and we have definitely gotten that!! The other was this: we know how cruel kids can be and we knew that it was going to be hard for her, having 2 moms. We didn't want her to have 2 FAT moms. We wanted to mimimize what the other kids could make fun of her about. And I think we have accomplished that one as well. Only time will tell.
XOXOXO,
Sharyn
Thanks for picking up the QOTD Cam... I'm only two weeks (and one day) out from my surgery, I weighed yesterday and was down exactly 25 lbs. in two weeks and combined with my loss prior to surgery I already feel SO much better standing and walking. This past spring, at my highest weight I could hardly walk the 4 blocks to work - everything hurt so bad, breathing was a problem and I was seeing myself headed to life in a wheelchair if things didn't change. I took a nice 1 mile walk yesterday (even up a small San Francisco hill) and it just felt great! This was a primary motivator for me.
But, there were also many more, including the desire to be able to travel more easily. All of my family is on the east coast and I haven't been back there for several years because it had just gotten too hard to travel that distance. My mom is in her mid-80s, I have the most handsome new great-nephew that I haven't seen in person yet, etc. and I want to be able to spend time with them now and again.

I no longer have diabetes and high blood pressure! Yea!! My mother died of complications due to diabetes at age 47. I'm 41, and my diabetes was spiraling out of control. I no longer feel like I'm on the same death path as my mom.
Thanks for posting this Cam!!
I'm pre-op...quite a ways to go. I want to spend a long life with my partner...it's almost 16 years and it's not long enough damnit! I believe that if I don't have WLS, my weight will continue to be a hinderance to my health and our time together will be shortened tremendously. Having heart disease and being MO is not a good thing.
