Hi Jeanette - from what I hear, Austin & Dallas are very gay friendly. We're not a couple to party much, but some of our friends have told us they've enjoyed themselves there. I'm sure the larger cities are more tolerant. You know how word travels in small towns and how everyone knows everyone else's business!! I wouldn't want to live in Dallas, Austin, San Antonio or Houston.......too dang humid for me!! Even though Corpus Christi and Galveston are humid, they have the coast and I might could tolerate the humidity there!! I love the beach! I can't help you much......don't know anything about the cost of living or what value the homes are ranging in. The internet could help you out there I'm sure. Good luck! Vicki

I live right outside of Austin and it is VERY gay friendly. I grew up in Austin and have NEVER experienced any kind of discrimination because of being gay. My partner of 16 years and I have a 7 year old daughter. Most of our friends have children and, again, no problems with school, doctors, anything. Many employers in Austin, including the City of Austin and Travis County, are gay friendly, too. Come to Central Texas!! The average home price is about $150,000 in the city. XOXOXO, Sharyn

Jeanette, I don't live in Texas but I live in Joplin, Missouri which is very gay friendly. We have been noted as the number 2 in the country for gay people per capita behind San Francisco. You can get to Dallas in a few hours drive but you are also close to ST.Louis,Tulsa OK ,Kansas City and Arkansas. It is a small town of about 50,000 but the cost of living is extremly low. If you spent $400,000 here you would be living in a mansion-literally. Check us out . It is something to consider... Dannielle

I lived in Dallas a couple years when you were 5 or 6 so I'm sharing "ancient history" here. But, even way back then I was openly gay there and didn't really have any problems. At the time I think being a Yankee was more of an issue. From what I've heard over the years though Austin sounds more appealing to me.

Hi Jeanette, I live in Tulsa, and as backwards a state as Oklahoma is, this is a very diverse area... The cost of living is lower here than in Dallas or Kansas City. The people here are very tolerant, I have been here since '78 and never had a problem. Half a mil will buy you 5000+ square feet with a pool in the back - and you WILL need the pool because it is HOTHOTHOT here Good luck! Holly
