Symptoms??
I am wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar to the symptoms I am having and what it may be....
I am 11 months out and have lost 135 lbs (YEAH). In the past two weeks I have not been feeling well. I get like random "waves" of pain and nausea in what I would say is my old tummy. I went to the doctor and he is sending me for a cat scan of my abdomin, he felt a mass in my lower abdomin/pelvic area. He thinks it may be an ovarian cyst but that wouldn't make me sick (I don't think). I ate a banana last night and about 15 minutes after I ate I was in severe pain in the middle of my abdomin (gall bladder?). I have also been pretty tired lately.
I would appreciate any input.
Thanks - Stacey
Sorry you are having pains like that. Please get it checked out ASAP. Don't wait if they schedule it too far out. Insist on a CT scan or an MRI of the area or even an Xray with contrast. My partner's first Xray didn't how anything, but once they added the contrast (Barium) it was obvious to them.
My partner woke up about 1:00 a.m. Thurs. morning with severe stomach pain a lot like you are talking about. He had been feeling fine before though. It seemed like it was sudden, but not thinking back. He'd been complaining a little bit of what seems like a pulled or stressed muscle in his side. After spending nearly all day in the ER yesterday, they found he had an obstructed small bowel and took him for emergency surgery about 11:00 last night. Part of his intestine did not look good, but after the bowel was put back it started to look ok. They are actually taking him back in this afternoon to open him up again and be sure that's it's actually ok. If not, that part will have to be removed.
Now, I kow it's not possible he had an ovarian cyst. and they did rule out everything else. You could very well have an internal hernia. But any sign of pain or anything head right back to the Drs. This came on very suddenly and turned very nasty within a few hours. The infection had already started when just a few hours before his blood test showed nothing. I could actually see his stomach fill with fluid. It looked like he gained 30 pounds in just a few hours. Even the doc said there was a LOT of fluid in there when they opened him up. Yes, they actually had to do open surgery for this last night.
He did have a mass in his abdomen and I would actually he the difference in the sound the the Dr. tapped on it.
Hopefully your's it nothing like what we are going through right now, but just be aware of the possibilities. It never really occured to me at first that the hernia might be an issue because he had his bypass 16 months ago.
I had bypass myself about 2.5 years ago, so it reminds me that I am still not immune to these kinds of things.
I just came home to rest for a bit after being awake the past 48 hours with no sleep. I really hope for you that's it's not anything serious at all. I know it's scary and you will get a lot of horror stories, but be aware of your body and your pain. It could be very serious.
Although on the other hand, it could just be that bananna didn't agree with you. I have that problem with pudding now and about 6 months after surgery, I tried to eat a small bowl of SF ice cream. The ice cream caused me the worst pain I have ever experienced and I will never eat ice cream or pudding again. I guess anything that's the consistency like that I tend to steer away from. I guess that's a good thing for me, otherwise I would probably be eating ice cream.
Best of luck to you!
Shane
