Need Help choosing a Protein Drink...
Good afternoon all,
I am in the final stages of the approval process with United and wanted to start trying protein drinks to see which ones I like. The only problem is I am Lactose Intolorant. Is there anyone else like me that cannot handle milk? If so which Protein drink do you use? Also, has anyone tried the ready-to-drink Profect Protein Beverage (25g in each 2.7ounce serving)) that is advertised on this site? I know it may be alittle on the pricey side but I'm willing to go that route if it works. All opinions are welcome....
Thanks,
D. Daniels
Hi D,
I'm 7 months out and still looking for a protein drink that is good. I think they are all disgusting.
I wanted to tell you at GNC they have a liquid protein that has 18 g protein in 3 tablespoons. I imagine it is cheaper than profect. I am currently using a Mega Whey Extreme. It has 60g in 12 oz. I make up only half a serving because my pouch is so small and it takes me all morning to get it in but I'm doing it. It has to be REAL cold and I do 2 swallows at a time and keep it in the fridge.
Good Luck on your journey! And in your hunt for a 'do'able protein drink!!
I am a week out from surgury and am drinking th unjury protein shakes. I either mix them with water or lactose milk. The cholcate tastes as close to an actual chocolate shake that I have been able to find in a protein drink. The strawberry is pretty good with the lactaid milk but is horrid with water. They also have an unflavored you can mix with food.
They have 20g of protein per scoop and I think 2 grams of sugar.
Best of luck,
Beth
D, I suggest you get small samples of all of them and wait until AFTER surgery to try them. Your tastes will change and something you like now (and buy 5 gallons of) may taste horrid to you postop, and vice versa. That is what I did (on the advice of folks here) and I am VERY glad I did. As for me? I llike Unjury the best but they are one of the most expensive too (sigh). I went through many before choosing Unjury but everyone has his/her own tastes. Some hate the taste of Unjury. Best of luck with your surgery!

Hi--I like the Isopure best of the ones I have tried. The bottled drinks are like Gatorade in taste and have I think 40 grams of protein/no carbs or sugar. I am not lactose intolerant but I get so fatigued of the milky taste and consistency so those are a treat (they are about $3.00 each). They have some unusual flavors in their powder too; right now I'm working through a big container of peach mango powder(25 grams protein per scoop). I make it with water(8 oz), and it is lactose free but still has the slight milky tendency from the soy.
Good luck!
I asked for help on picking protein drinks over on the main board and a lot of people suggested getting a sample pack, so that is what I did...
I ordered the tasters pack from bariatriceating.com. I agree on waiting until after surgery to try all of them though. Your tastes really do change! It was hard for me to believe pre-op, but I am learning now that it's true.
I used to love everything chocolate, now it is too much for me and I want something fruity. This is so not like me!!!!
I am now lactose intolerant since my surgery, so I have been using soy milk to blend my protein shakes. I am currently using chocolate unjury, but I am getting sick of it after having it so much.
I am looking into nectar proteins that can be mixed in with crystal light and will get several flavors to try in the sample pack I ordered.
Good luck choosing!
